Cisco Systems® announces the end-of-sale and end-of-life dates for the DC power supply option for the Cisco® PIX 525 Security Appliance. The Cisco PIX 525 Security Appliance with AC power supply will continue to be available. The last day to order the affected product is May 15, 2006. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) until May 30, 2011. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product. Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement.
Customers are encouraged to migrate to the Cisco ASA 5520 Adaptive Security Appliance with DC power supply bundle, which provides higher firewall and VPN throughput, superior security feature set, extensive enterprise-class resiliency features and more. Information about the replacement product can be found at: http://www.cisco.com/go/asa. Table 3 provides relevant information for migrating to the replacement product.

PRODUCT MIGRATION OPTIONS
The recommended replacement for the Cisco PIX 525 with DC power supply is the Cisco ASA 5520 with DC power supply bundle. The benefits of upgrading to the Cisco ASA 5520 security appliance are:
• Nearly double the price/performance, featuring higher firewall and VPN performance
• Integrated SSL VPN support
• Ability to add full-featured IPS or anti-X services
• Enterprise class resiliency, VPN load balancing and clustering
• Consistent user experience between the Cisco PIX 525 and Cisco ASA 5520 security appliances.
Table 3 shows that the replacement product, Cisco ASA 5520 Adaptive Security Appliance, is a superior product when compared with the end-of-sale product Cisco PIX 525 Security Appliance.
