Cisco® introduces two new PIX® Firewall hardware products on May 1, 1998: Cisco PIX Firewall 510 (PIX-510) and Cisco PIX Firewall 520 (PIX-520). These two products replace the current Cisco PIX Firewall (PIX) and PIX 10000 (PIX10000). As a result, June 1, 1998, will mark the End-of-Sale for the current PIX Firewall and PIX 10000 products. Also, product bundles including either PIX Firewall or PIX 10000 will share the same End-of-Sale date. Fulfillment of all shipments for PIX Firewall and PIX 10000 products will be completed by August 1, 1998. Table 1 summarizes all affected products.
These new PIX Firewall products offer several enhancements. Both PIX Firewall 510 and 520 share a new, lower-profile chassis design with mounting options for cabling the unit either from the front or rear. PIX Firewall 510 has a 166-MHz Pentium processor and 16 MB of RAM, and the PIX Firewall 520 has a 233-MHz Pentium II processor and 32 MB of RAM. PIX Firewall 520 is also available with a 48VDC power supply and it is NEBS-compliant.

MAINTENANCE CONTRACTS
PIX Firewall and PIX 10000 products will continue to be fully supported by the SMARTnet® maintenance agreements. The existing SMARTnet product offerings will not change for the PIX Firewall 510 and 520, and the same part numbers should be used for ordering.
SOFTWARE SUPPORT
Cisco PIX Firewall and PIX 10000 will support the next two major releases of software. PIX Firewall 510 and 520 both support PIX Software V.4.0.7 and subsequent software releases.
UPGRADE PATH TO PIX FIREWALL 520
Both PIX Firewall and PIX 10000 customers using the Cisco Technology Migration program can upgrade to PIX Firewall 520. Contact your local Cisco sales representative or Cisco reseller for more information.
