END-OF-LIFE NOTICE, NO. 643

INTRODUCTION

This Product Bulletin covers the issues associated with the End-of-Sale of the Versatile Interface Processor Models 10 and 20 (VIP2-10 and VIP2-20, respectively) product series and appropriate upgrade products.

The last order date for these products is July 26, 1997. Last order date has been expedited with the recent introduction of the VIP2-15 and price reduction of the existing VIP2-40. These two products are form, fit, and function replacements for the VIP2-10 and VIP2-20, respectively. Information about products affected by this announcement, product availability, maintenance, and product substitutions are included.

RATIONALE

The VIP2 product family is being streamlined to simplify product selection, remove many configuration limitations, and collapse Distributed Switching and Distributed Services features into a single product offering.

VIP2-10

VIP2-10 has entered End-of-Sale with the availability of the new VIP2-15. The VIP2-15 is a form, fit, and functional replacement for the VIP2-10 at the same price. The VIP2-15 provides forwarding services for up to two port adapters with increased SRAM. The additional SRAM removes most of the configuration constraints found on the VIP2-10.

VIP2-20

VIP2-20 has entered End-of-Sale with the recent decision to combine the Distributed Services capability of the VIP2-40 with the Distributed Switching capability of the VIP2-20. The VIP2-40 has been reduced in price to the level of the VIP2-20 concurrent with this End-of-Sale announcement.

The last order date for the VIP2-10 and VIP2-20 is quick since the VIP2-15 and VIP2-40 are direct replacements of the VIP2-10 and VIP2-20 at the same price points with additional memory and increased services (VIP2-40 only).

AVAILABILITY

End-of-Sale	July 26, 1997	After July 26, 1997, the products listed in the table above will no longer be orderable.
End of Software Maintenance	No change in Software Maintenance	End of Software Maintenance for VIP2-10 and VIP2-20 Series is not being announced at this time.
End of Hardware Maintenance	July 26, 2002	After July 26, 2002, no hardware repairs or exchanges will be available for the VIP2-10 or VIP2-20.

PRODUCT SUBSTITUTION

For Cisco Series 75xx routers and Cisco Series 70x0 routers equipped with the RSP7000, the following products are direct replacements for those products entering End-of-Sale.
