Cisco announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco CSS 11500 Series Content Services Switches. The last day to order the affected product(s) is September 21, 2011. Customers with active service contracts will continue to receive support from the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) as shown in Table 1 of the EoL bulletin. Table 1 describes the end-of-life milestones, definitions, and dates for the affected product(s). Table 2 lists the product part numbers affected by this announcement. For customers with active and paid service and support contracts, support will be available until the termination date of the contract, even if this date exceeds the Last Date of Support shown in Table 1.
Cisco sales teams and channel partners are encouraged to transition sales of Cisco CSS 11500 Series Content Services Switch through a migration of their current CSS 11500 Series installed base to the Cisco Application Control Engine. The Cisco ACE is the industry's most advanced application-switching device. It offers a much larger set of functionality and architectural benefits than the CSS 11500 Series Content Services Switches. In addition to Layer 4 load balancing and Layer 7 content-switching functionality, the Cisco ACE offers advanced features like SSL offloading, virtual devices, role-based administration, and management, monitoring, and reporting through the Cisco Application Networking Manager and the command-line interface. The Cisco ACE offers SSL offloading capability (up to 30,000 SSL transactions per second), virtualization (up to 250 virtual devices), role-based administration, http compression (up to 6 Gbps), throughput (up to 16 Gbps) and software-license-based scalability.

The Cisco ACE30 module provides the choice of a performance throughput license. Performance throughput licenses can be selected from 4 Gbps, 8 Gbps, or 16 Gbps, with the ability to upgrade from 4 Gbps to 8 Gbps and from 8 Gbps to 16 Gbps. The performance throughput license options come with SSL transactions capacity of up to 30,000 SSL TPS, compression throughput of 6 Gbps (limited by the throughput license bandwidth), and 250 virtual contexts. The Cisco ACE 4710 appliance provides the choice of a performance throughput license. Performance throughput licenses can be selected from 0.5 Gpbs, 1 Gbps, 2 Gbps, or 4 Gbps, with the ability to upgrade from 0.5 Gbps to 1 Gbps, from 1 Gbps to 2 Gbps, and from 2 Gbps to 4 Gbps. The performance throughput license options come with a default SSL transactions capacity of up to 7,500 SSL TPS, compression throughput of 2 Gbps (limited by the throughput license bandwidth), and 20 virtual contexts when upgraded to Cisco ACE Software release 4(2.0).
