Network access control is a primary concern among enterprises. Security challenges today exist not only at the perimeter, but with the advent of wireless LANs come from inside the corporate domain itself. In addition, IT managers face ever more complex compliance regulations, all requiring increased levels of control and accountability.

Cisco Secure Access Control System (ACS) is a network access control policy system designed to address today’s corporate network access control policy challenges. ACS helps enable and facilitate almost any network identity and network access control strategy, and delivers powerful performance, plus scalable and distributed deployment capabilities. It also offers versatile operation, as it acts both as RADIUS and a TACACS+ server. ACS provides the key building block for most network access control and identity strategies for a variety of enterprises, including large multinationals, retail and medium-sized businesses, and small startups.

Depending on the type of connection, ACS interacts with various external policy, database, and posture engines, reports on any request or action taken, then enforces the chosen policy on the network. The result is better network access control, monitoring, and enforcement of safe access to corporate resources.
