1 Concepts
Overview
Cisco Digital Media Players (DMPs) are compatible with a remote control unit that we sell separately. Functions of this remote control unit vary according to which DMP-enabled software products your organization purchases, licenses, installs, and configures. See http://www.cisco.com/go/dms to learn which Cisco software products are DMP-enabled.
DMP Pairing
We do not support pairing a remote control with any one DMP exclusively. Instead, signals from your remote control will affect all DMPs within its field (angle) of transmission. This design prevents needless manufacturing waste and lowers your cost to purchase, ship, and store remote control units.
The Battery

Your DMP remote control is battery-powered. It uses a standard, 3V CR2025 lithium battery, manufactured by a well-known supplier such as Panasonic or Toshiba. The name of the actual manufacturer is etched into the face of the battery.
When the battery loses its charge or when you remove the battery, your DMP remote control will not work until the battery is replaced. You should always recycle or dispose of the battery in accordance with:

Factors That Reduce Effectiveness
All current DMP models are equipped with an infrared (IR) sensor that receives, recognizes, and reacts to the signals from a DMP remote control. However, the way that you mount a DMP can limit how well it responds to these signals. For example, the mounting method might block the IR sensor. This in turn might cause you to attach an IR extension cable to your DMP, as a workaround.
Even when you mount the receptor from this extension cable where it is not obstructed, and even though this method improves the reception of IR signals that are blocked otherwise, IR extension cables are not perfect. The physics that underlie their design ensure that these cables always have some signal loss, and greater cable length contributes greater signal loss. Thus, the field (angle) of transmission becomes narrower for a remote control and the range (distance) becomes shorter in direct proportion to the length of the IR extension cable.
