Configuring Terminals

Endpoints Overview

There are two types of endpoints in Resource Manager:

Terminal

H.323/SIP IP, PSTN/ISDN, or mobile

Can belong to one meeting room or not belong to any meeting room.

Meeting room

The physical location of one or more terminals.

Also used for Non Video Conference meetings in which no terminals are involved.

Accessing and Configuring Meeting Rooms

To access a list of meeting rooms and their associated terminals, go to Admin > Resource Management > Meeting Rooms.

Note By default, the Meeting Rooms tab is hidden in Resource Manager. To enable Meeting Rooms, uncheck Hide Meeting Rooms in Admin > Advanced Settings > Look and Feel.

Meeting Room Profile

The following procedure details how to create and modify a meeting room profile:

Procedure

Step 1 Click Add on the Meeting Rooms tab to add a new meeting or the name of a meeting room to modify that meeting room.

Step 2 In the Meeting Room Profile window, enter a meeting room name in the Room Name field. Enter the location of the meeting room in the Room Location field.

Step 3 Choose Meeting notification email address to enable the email address field and time zone field. This allows a terminal that participates directly in a meeting to receive notification emails.

Note By default, Meeting notification email address is hidden. To enable this field, uncheck Hide Meeting Notification E-mail for Meeting Rooms and Terminals field in Admin > Advanced Settings > Look and Feel.

Step 4 To change the Default Time Zone, select a time zone from the list. The default value is set on Advanced Settings > Default > User Settings.

Searching for a Meeting Room

You can search for a meeting room by name.

Procedure

Step 1 Enter a meeting room name or part of a meeting room name in the Meeting Room field.

Step 2 Click Search.

If a meeting room is found, it appears on the Meeting Rooms tab.

Note If the meeting room information cannot be displayed in a single window, at the bottom of the window, you can click the previous or next arrows or a page number to move between Meeting Rooms pages.

Configuring Terminals

You can predefine terminals in Resource Manager.

H.323 terminals—Define all terminals registered to gatekeepers that are configured in Resource Manager.

SIP terminals—Define all terminals registered to external SIP servers configured in Resource Manager.

PSTN/ISDN or mobile terminals—Define all terminals that you want Resource Manager to automatically invite to a meeting and manage their availability.

Note The current number of terminals being used and the total number of available terminals appears at the bottom of the Terminals tab. The total number of terminals defined in Resource Manager cannot exceed the number of seats allowed by the Cisco Unified Videoconferencing Manager license.

Terminal Profile

You can create and modify a Terminal Profile via the Terminal tab.

Procedure

Step 1 To access detailed information about a terminal, go to Admin >Resource Management > Terminal.

Step 2 Enter the name of the terminal in the Name field.

Step 3 Click Default Users to associate this terminal as the default terminal for users in Resource Manager.

Step 4 Use the arrow buttons to select and organize Current Terminal and Current Users names in the Select Users window.

Step 5 Enter a name in the Names field to search for the name of a terminal or user, and then click Check Names. You can also select from a group of terminals or users in the Select from list.

Step 6 Click OK to apply your selections and to close the Select Users window.

Step 7 Select a terminal type from the Terminal Type list.

IP(H.323)

In the IP Phone Number field, enter the E.164 IP phone number of the terminal registered on the gatekeeper as specified in the Registered to field. If the terminal is not registered to a gatekeeper, then in the IP Phone Number field, enter the IP address of the terminal.

ISDN/PSTN(H.320)

Define the default bandwidth for the terminal in the Bandwidth field. Resource Manager uses the bandwidth number to reserve resources for this terminal.

For a PSTN/ISDN network that works in restricted mode, choose Restricted Mode.

Enter the phone number of the terminal in the Country Code, Area Code, and Number fields. If you do not specify this information, then Resource Manager is not able to find the optimal gateway for the terminal when scheduling a conference.

Assign the ISDN device island to which the gateway or gateway pool belongs. If ISDN Topology is hidden, then this field is also hidden.

IP(SIP)

In the SIP URL field, the terminal name or terminal number is followed by the SIP server domain name and a suffix derived from the domain name of the SIP server. For example, <terminal name>@<SIP server domain name> or "user@domain_name.com".

Define the default bandwidth for the terminal in the Bandwidth field. Resource Manager uses this number to reserve resources for this terminal.

Mobile—Supports 3G or non-3G terminals

Define the default bandwidth for this terminal in the Bandwidth field. Resource Manager uses this number to reserve resources for the terminal.

Enter the phone number of the terminal in the Country Code, Area Code, and Number fields. If you do not specify this information, then Resource Manager is not able to find the optimal gateway for the terminal when scheduling a conference.

For 3G terminals, choose 3G.

Step 8 To associate a terminal with a meeting room in the Meeting Room section, choose Meeting notification email address to enable the email address field and time zone field. This allows a terminal that participates directly in a meeting to receive email notifications. Click Browse next to the email address field to select the email address of an existing user for this terminal.

Note By default, the Meeting notification email address field is hidden. To enable it, uncheck Hide Meeting Notification E-mail for meeting rooms and terminals field on Admin > Advanced Settings > Look and Feel tab.

Step 9 Select a time zone from the list to change the Default Time Zone value. The default value is set on Advanced Settings > Default > User Settings.

Using Terminal > Advanced Tab

The Advanced tab appears when you add a new terminal.

Procedure

Step 1 Enter a PCS Web login and password in the Login Name and Login Password fields.

Step 2 If the endpoint has an embedded MCU, choose Has Embedded MCU.

Step 3 If the terminal is an ISDN/PSTN(H.320) terminal, on the Advanced tab, configure the following fields:

Enter the IP address of the terminal in the IP Address field.

Assign the device island that the terminal belongs to in the Location field.

Select the gatekeeper this endpoint is registered to in the Register To field.

Select the ISDN capacity of the embedded gateway of this terminal in ISDN Capacity field.

Searching for a Terminal

You can search for a terminal by name or by dialing information.

Procedure

Step 1 To search for a terminal by name, enter all or part of a terminal name in the Name field, and then click Search.

Step 2 To search for a terminal by number, enter all or part of a terminal IP number or ISDN phone number in the Dialing Info field, and then click Search.

Search results appear in the list on the Terminal tab.

Note The ISDN phone number of the terminal should not include dashes or spaces. The ISDN phone number can only be used when ISDN(H320) or Dual(H320 and H323) are selected in the Terminal Type field. Both IP and ISDN numbers are displayed if the terminal is configured as a dual terminal.

If there is too much terminal information to be displayed in a single window, use the navigational tools at the bottom of the window (click the previous and next arrows, or a page number) to move between Terminal pages.
