Problem Description

The WS-SUP720 may experience NVRAM corruption due to a faulty crystal oscillator.  

Background

The Supervisor may experience NVRAM corruption which results in the inability to boot the operating system. Internal testing has verified that this problem is due to a faulty crystal on the hardware versions specified in the Products Affected section above.

Workaround/Solution

The affected crystal has been replaced on the supervisor. HW versions 1.5 and above and serial numbers SAD0740xxxx and above of any MSFC3 Daughter Boards will NOT exhibit this problem.


Confirm the Supervisor is within the serial number range and hardware version specified in the Products Affected section above. If the product is within the serial number range but at a higher HW version than specified above, it is NOT affected.
