Background

The problem was found in development testing, and has the Cisco Bug ID CSCds37736 (registered customers only) .

Problem Symptoms

A Cisco 800 series router that displays "MPC860" instead of "MPC850" for the CPU type in the output of the show version command has a misconfigured CPU. This situation occurs on routers recently shipped with the rev-B MPC850 part and results in various problems such as intermittent WAN failure, DRAM corruption, and memory protection violations.

Workaround/Solution

The Cisco 801-805 IOS 12.1(3)XG images have been deferred and removed from CCO. Cisco recommends customers upgrade to the IOS 12.1(3)XG1 images, which are currently posted at the Software Center (registered customers only) on CCO.
