Note: Line cards marked with deviation 994064 have passed a manufacturing test that detects the failure and are not affected regardless of revision. To view the deviation number of a line card, use the show diag command. The output of a sample show diag command is shown below with the deviation number in bold for reference.

Problem Description

Line cards with this problem may experience the following symptoms:

  • Line card spurious alignment errors

  • Line card crashes

  • Spurious alignment log messages

Background

Under certain conditions, a small percentage of the line card CPUs are experiencing failures due to noise inside the CPU.

Problem Symptoms

To check for these failure modes, issue the following commands from enabled mode:

show context summary

If the output from the show context summary command displays line card crashes, collect the output of the show context slot [slot#] command for the card that crashed and open a case with the Cisco TAC for analysis. Line card crashes can occur for other reasons so analysis of the crash is required to conclude that the error occured due to this problem.

exec all show align

If exec all show align displays alignment errors, open a case with the Cisco TAC for analysis of the output. Alignment errors can occur for other reasons so analysis of the data is required to conclude that the error occured due to this problem.

show log

The following message may also be generated if alignment errors are occuring. If you see this message, issue the above commands to collect the required data and contact the Cisco TAC.

SLOT 4:%ALIGN-3-SPURIOUS: Spurious memory access made at [hex address]

This problem can be recognized by the presence of the delete_target function in the decode of the tracebacks.

Workaround/Solution

Due to the small number of line cards affected by this problem, Cisco recommends a fix-on-fail replacement strategy for this issue. Service Logistics has known-good inventory at this time. Failed units can be returned to Cisco using the return materials authorization (RMA) process. Code RMAs as follows.
