Cisco Virtualization Experience Client Manager

VXC-M HTTP Configuration Example

Contributed by Felipe de Mello, Cisco TAC Engineer.

This document describes how to enable HTTP on the Virtualization Experience Client Manager (VXC-M). The typical VXC-M install (default) only enables the FTP protocol. If you want to use HTTP or HTTPS, HTTP must be enabled.

Cisco recommends that you have knowledge of a VXC-M server with only FTP enabled.

Components Used

The information in this document is based on these software and hardware versions:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2
  • VXC-M Version 4.9.1
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) Version 7 Manager

The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Complete these steps:

  1. Open IIS Manager (inetmgr.exe).
  2. Expand the server and Sites.

  3. Right-click Rapport HTTP Server and choose Add Application...

    Alias: MyWDM

    Physical path: C:\inetput\ftproot

  4. Expand Rapport HTTP Server, and click MyWDM.
  5. On the /MyWDM Home screen, click Authentication.

  6. Enable Basic Authentication, and disable the other two types of authentication.

  7. Click MyWDM under Rapport HTTP Server, and double-click MIME Types.
  8. Choose .*, .ini, .raw, and .info.

  9. Navigate to VXC-M > Configuration Manager> Software Repositories, right-click MASTER, and choose Properties.
  10. Change the Transfer Type to HTTP and FTP. When the question pops up, click Yes.

  11. Under the newly-created HTTP section, enter the password for the rapport user: r@p8p0r+

  12. Click OK.

Use this section in order to confirm that your configuration works properly.

Navigate to VXC-M > Configuration Manager> Software Repositories, right-click MASTER, and choose Test Connection. Both FTP and HTTP should pass.

Complete these steps in order to ensure that everything works as expected:

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Go to http://localhost/MyWDM/Rapport/package-name/.
  3. Log in with the rapport user credentials.
  4. Ensure that every file of the package can be downloaded.

There is currently no specific troubleshooting information available for this configuration.
