Preinstallation Planning
Use the information in this chapter to prepare for the installation of the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system components. This chapter contains the following sections:

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Installation Tasks
The Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server must be installed before any other gateway, integration applications, or components are installed.
The following tasks are required to install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace system:
1. Check rack space. Confirm that space is available for installing the server. Confirm that environmental requirements are met before the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server arrives. Refer to the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server and System Requirements for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/ps5664/ps5669/prod_installation_guides_list.html.
2. Take delivery of Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server. Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server arrives in specialized shipping boxes. Store them in the room in which the system will be installed until they can be unpacked.
3. Unpack the system. Uncrate equipment, and check for damage.
4. Rack mount the server. Install the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server. Refer to the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
5. Connect the system. Cable the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server to the phone system and the LAN. Plug in the platform, and power it on. Refer to the Installation and Upgrade Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
6. Enter hardware configuration. Use the telephony worksheets to configure the trunks. See the "Telephony and LAN Planning" chapter in this guide.
7. Test trunk connections. Test the trunks for proper operation. Confirm that the phone connection is working properly. Refer to the Configuration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server at http://www.cisco.com/en/us/products/sw/ps5664/ps5669/products_installation_and_configuration_guides_list.html.
8. Install modem line. Connect the modem line to the platform, and test it. Refer to the Configuration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
9. Review equipment and connectivity. Familiarize yourself with the equipment and how everything is connected. Refer to the Configuration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
10. Load MeetingTime system management software onto a LAN server or an individual workstation. Refer to the Administration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/ps5664/ps5669/prod_maintenance_guides_list.html.
11. Begin populating database. Review information on the worksheets, and enter the system configuration and company-specific information. Enter your user profile. Refer to the Administration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
12. Verify the installation. Call the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server and schedule a meeting. Then attend it. Refer to the Administration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
13. Test alarm outdial. Generate an alarm condition on the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series server to verify alarm outdial. Refer to the Administration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
14. Create additional user profiles. Enter the remaining user profile information. If you created an import file, load it. Refer to the Administration Guide for Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Audio Server.
15. Schedule training for end users, delegates (contacts), and attendants. See the "Introducing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace to Your Organization" chapter in this guide.
16. Schedule follow-up calls. Hold one or more conference calls to get answers to questions that you may have after you use the system more extensively. See the "Introducing Cisco Unified MeetingPlace to Your Organization" chapter.
Important Safety Information

In addition, remember the following safety instructions:
•Never install phone wiring during a lightning storm.
•Never install a phone jack in a wet location unless the jack is specifically designed for wet locations.
•Never touch uninsulated phone wires or terminals unless the phone line has been disconnected at the network interface.
•Use caution when installing or modifying phone lines.
•High leakage current—earth connection essential before connecting supply.
•Any changes or modifications to this equipment which are not expressly approved by Cisco Systems could void your right to operate the equipment.

This worksheet describes preparation tasks for the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace site. A representative from the Cisco Network Consulting Engineer (NCE) group will work with you to fill out the worksheet.

Provide the necessary equipment to mount the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace 8100 series properly:
•Open rack
•Closed rack/cabinet

Provide additional power outlets or other equipment required to accommodate the system:
•Surge suppressor
•Uninterrupted power supply (UPS)
•Channel service unit (CSU)
•Supplemental grounding wire and an appropriate facilities grounding terminal (must be used at all times)

•Obtain the necessary cables and other hardware not supplied with the system.
