Next Generation Data Centre Architecture – A Foundation for IT as a Service

We are at the beginning of a fundamental innovative shift in the way IT services are consumed. The shift requires a next generation Data Centre capable of supporting self-service access, rapid elasticity, resource pooling, broad network access, and consumption lifecycle management. This shift is not optional, the only question is will you seize the opportunity and drive a transformational change program, or risk being marginalised by superior service providers. In this session Mark McKenzie will cover:

  • The key challenge facing IT Executives today
  • Emerging Technology Trends Offer the Solution - ITaaS
  • ITaaS Requires a Next Generation Data Centre
  • A Programmatic Approach to get to ITaaS
  • Case Studies
  • Summary and Q&A

BENDABLE – BUILDING RESILIENT 21ST CENTURY ORGANISATIONS

What do the Alpine Trail backpack, Cemlite and Corning's "willow" glass have in common and what do they have to do with transforming 21st century organisations?

All three innovations exemplify the constant search for materials, in all sorts of different contexts, which are lighter, stronger and more flexible and therefore more durable and efficient. In other words, they are examples of constant innovation to make materials more robust and less breakable and capable of performing to exacting standards even under conditions of high pressure and constant change.

In this presentation, Cisco thought leader and IBSG's Asia-Pacific director for public sector Martin Stewart-Weeks will explain not only why the purpose of "transforming" organisations for the 21st century is to make them more "bendable", but what organisations need to do to become more bendable and how.

In a period of rapid change and high and rising uncertainty, there is a new premium on resilience or "bendability", the ability not only to bounce back from unexpected and adverse shocks but, increasingly, to "bounce forward" to anticipate and at least to mitigate the consequence of successive waves of change. The question is how to transform organisations which live by the new rule of organisational performance, not so much "be prepared" but "be prepared to be surprised."

Technology, and especially the new rules and tools of distributed networks are a central part of the answer together with critical and interdependent changes to structure, systems and culture.

The presentation will look especially at the changing nature of knowledge and information, at innovation, at the changing nature of work and, importantly, at organisational leadership.

Finally, it will offer an "architecture for resilience" - for organisatonal bendability - and share some design principles to guide the search for resilience and transformation.

How to Leverage the Cloud

The complexities and challenges facing businesses grow with every passing year. Globalisation means organisations need to accelerate time to-market with new products and services, while keeping costs down. For many businesses, cloud computing represents a way to address these challenges; however, leveraging the cloud presents a number of complex challenges: security, compliance, integration, global coverage and internal readiness.

This session will explore how organisations (both Australian and global) are successfully navigating these issues, which sectors are moving which workloads, how they are mitigating the perceived risks and what benefits they are actually realising.

ITES Keynote: The Sixth Wave of Innovation

Since the Industrial Revolution, the tide of progress has ebbed and flowed: five distinct waves, each starting with disruptive new technologies and ending with a global depression, have transformed our industries, societies and economies almost beyond recognition. We are now on the cusp of another massive transformation – the sixth wave. In this session, James Bradfield Moody, innovator, author and Executive Director of Development at the CSIRO, will explore the sixth wave and consider what it will bring to society – a spectacular boom in technology and powerful new markets that will drive a shift away from resource dependence to a new way of life: resource efficiency. Waste will be a source of opportunity and nature a source of inspiration.

Exploring Vendor Strategies, Architectures, TCO and Operational Risk

Business leaders must evaluate options for new technology for critical business functions, considering IT costs as well as operational risks. By providing a framework for understanding the overall value drivers associated with these networking strategies, we evaluate the potential impact of different approaches. We will discuss how network vendor strategies align with important sources of business value, such as network performance and reliability, as well as operational functionality, maintainability, extensibility, security, interoperability, and risk.
