New Software Features
These are the new software features in Release 5.6:
- Video download—As the system administrator you can globally enable or disable video download for video authors. When enabled, video authors can download any video that they have uploaded to Cisco Show and Share. You can also globally enable or disable video download for all Cisco Show and Share users. When enabled, users can download a video based on the publishing policy set by the video author.
As the video author or publisher you can enable or disable video downloading for Cisco Show and Share users. For a public video, anonymous users can download the video. If the forced login feature is enabled, users must be logged in to download a video. For a private video, all group members can download the video. For a hidden video, only those with access to the video URL link can download the video.
- Edit video metadata—You can edit the title, description, and tags of a video that is in the hidden or published state without affecting the video status. The changes are available immediately in the Show and Share user interface.
- Video ownership transfer—A video author can accept or deny video reassignment from another video owner. If the video author denies the transfer, the video owner can cancel the transfer request.
- Refresh speaker cache—As the system administrator you can use the Refresh Cache button to manually update the local user database cache after synchronizing the LDAP server. The speaker cache also automatically refreshes daily at 12:00 AM.
For software features supported in earlier Show and Share software releases, see the Cisco Show and Share Release Notes and the “Cisco Show and Share” section of the Release Notes for Cisco Digital Media Suite 5.3.x on Cisco.com.
Cisco Show and Share Release 5.6 includes a new mobile client application that is supported on these devices:
Installation Notes
- Cisco Digital Media Suite (DMS) appliances require a DNS server to work correctly. Enter fully-qualified domain names (FQDNs) and not IP addresses during setup in the Appliance Administration Interface (AAI). Otherwise, appliances cannot operate as designed and most of the functions will fail.
- Do not append a trailing dot to any FQDN during appliance setup.
- To maintain network security, your Cisco DMM appliances and Show and Share appliances use digital certificates for communication. The certificates use the DNS-resolvable hostname to uniquely identify each appliance. Therefore, you must enter the DNS-resolvable hostname for each appliance during setup when prompted to enter the FQDN in AAI.
- You must configure each DMS appliance in AAI to point to the DNS server for your network. Also configure the DNS server to associate each DMS appliance IP address with the FQDNs used by their digital certificates.
Limitations and Restrictions
–
Cisco Digital Media Designer
–
Cisco Digital Media Player Device Manager.
- Cisco Show and Share running on a Cisco MXA UCS M3 server should be used with a Cisco DMM running on a Cisco MXA UCS M3 server. If other UCS servers are running in the same network environment there should be no impact to the operation of the Show and Share and DMM UCS servers.
- You cannot use a single Cisco DMM for both Cisco Digital Signs and Show and Share files.
- Configuring Digital Signs Failover on a DMM running Release 5.6 is not supported.
- When the mobile application access feature is enabled, mobile users can view Cisco Show and Share videos without logging in. There is no forced authentication for mobile device access.
- The maximum video length that you can upload or record through the mobile application is ten minutes. For longer videos, you should transfer the file from the mobile device and upload to Cisco Show and Share through a supported browser.
Upgrading to Release 5.6 Software
Supported Software Upgrade Path
Table 4 lists the supported Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM upgrade path. Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances must both run the same software version.
If you are on an earlier release, you must first upgrade to Release 5.5 before performing the software upgrade procedure. See the Release Notes for your software version on Cisco.com for more information.
Upgrading Software on Cisco Show and Share and DMM Appliances
- Download Cisco Show and Share Release 5.6 and Cisco DMM Release 5.6 from Cisco.com.
- To upgrade to Software Release 5.6, you need to backup the existing media and configuration files from the Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances running Release 5.5, and then complete the software upgrade procedure. For instructions, see the “Backup and Restore” chapter in the Administrator Guide for Cisco Show and Share Release 5.6 on Cisco.com.
Complete this procedure on the Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM appliances.
Step 1
Mount the software USB drive in the USB slot and reboot the appliance.
Or, you can mount the virtual drive from the Cisco Integrated Management Controller (CIMC). For more information, see the Cisco UCS C220 Server Installation and Service Guide on Cisco.com.
Step 2
The hardware boots from the mounted USB drive and displays the following software upgrade menu:

Step 3
To upgrade an existing appliance from Release 5.5 to Release 5.6, select Yes.
When you select Yes the following Warning Message appears asking you to confirm that you have completed the appliance back up. Click Yes to proceed, or No to cancel the upgrade. If you choose No, the installer will close and the appliance will reboot.

Step 4
When the System Recovery screen appears, click Yes to continue with the software upgrade process. The upgrade process starts automatically. If you choose No, the installer will close and the appliance will reboot.
When the upgrade is finished, the appliance reboots.
Step 5
(Optional) To verify the upgraded software, log in to the AAI interface as admin. Confirm that the Main Menu shows the installed software version 5.6.
For more information, see the Administration Guide for Cisco Digital Media Suite 5.5 and 5.6 Appliances on Cisco.com.
After you complete the software upgrade procedure on Cisco Show and Share and Cisco DMM, you should pair the appliances. First pair the DMM appliance from Show and Share, and then pair Show and Share from the DMM appliance. For more information, see the Administration Guide for Cisco Digital Media Suite 5.5 and 5.6 Appliances on Cisco.com.

Apache service is not showing up as running
The DMM Administration > Services tab displays an alert that the Apache service has stopped.
Workaround None. The stopped services alert does not affect functionality.
When you open the video player and change the browser zoom setting from 100 percent, the page content disappears.
Workaround Do not change the browser zoom setting from 100 percent when using the video player.
Search filter in per author traffic report does not work properly
When you use an author first name or last name in the Reports > Per author traffic search filter, the search results are incorrect.
‘q’ and ‘g’ cannot be distinguished due to small width of the text field
Because of the user interface text field width, the “q” and “g” characters are difficult to read.
Mobile: Processing Publish will not change automatically
When you publish a video by using the Show and Share mobile application, the processing state does not refresh automatically.
Workaround Manually refresh the page to update the processing status.
Mobile: Thumbnail is not available for video having duration less than 3 seconds
When you record and publish a video by using the Show and Share mobile application that is less than three seconds, there is no thumbnail for the video.
Selected user count mismatch on User Roles
When you search for users by their role assignments, there is a count mismatch in the search results.
Retains Approved state in spite of Hidden
When publishing multiple videos simultaneously, there are issues with the video status (Approved, Hidden, Published) after refreshing the page.
Video listed under both Processing and Draft state while processing
When a Cisco MXE 3500 is enabled for video transcoding and you upload a video, the video appears as both Processing and Draft in your Uploaded tab.
Thumbnails of the split videos do not show up after Saving the video
If you split an.mp4 video in segments and then rearrange the segments, the thumbnails do not appear after clicking Save.
Full screen button for wmv video is not working
When you pause a.wmv video, clicking on the full screen button has no effect.
After MXE ‘processing-publish’ status video listing displays as ‘draft’
When a Cisco MXE 3500 is enabled for video transcoding and you upload and publish a video, the video status remains as Draft after processing and publishing is complete. Clicking the Play button returns a “video not found” error.
Behavior change in Edit Video if managing published video with slides
When you upload a video and add synchronized slides, there could be issues if you edit the video and remove all slides except for one. Also, if you then add a.zip file of slides, there could be a duplicated slide.
