Cisco TelePresence IP VCR Series

Launching WMP to play back an IP VCR recording from a web page link

How do I launch a standalone Windows Media Player to play back a IP VCR recording from a web page link?

To be able to play a recording by clicking a web link, put a link in your web page as follows:

<a href="mms://<IP VCR's IP address or DNS name>/<media source name>">Click here to watch myrecording</a>

For example:

<a href="mms://">Click here to watch myrecording</a>

In this url: 'mms' tells the browser that it needs to launch Windows Media Player to access the mms url. Windows Media Player will open and play the file.

<media source name>: can be found by watching the recording via the IP VCR's streaming web page, right-clicking in the page and selecting View source. Search for mms to see the name to use. For the example above you would find the following line:

You will also need to put a link on your web page to the WMP codec installer. This is available to download from every IP VCR and allows Windows Media Player to play IP VCR recordings. Every user will need to download the codec the first time they want to view a recording from an IP VCR. (You need administrator rights to do this so that the Windows registry is updated.) For example:

<a href="http://<IP VCR's IP address or DNS name>/codian_video_decoder.msi">Click here</a> to download the codec if Windows Media Player is unable to process the media stream. <br>
<PARAM NAME="fileName" VALUE="mmsu://>
