Installing the Cisco CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter
This chapter describes how to install a Cisco CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter in a rack-mounting carriage assembly and a single unit mounting bracket.
Installing a Cisco CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter in a Rack
The CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter converts 4 x SFP+ ports into a QSFP port. It provides the flexibility to connect to a 40G QSFP port of switch on one end and to four 10G SFP+ ports of a switch on the other end. Before You BeginProcedure
Components delivered in the shipping box.
The adapter carriage assembly is designed to be installed in a standard 19-inch rack.
Number 2 Phillips screwdriver and a 3/16-inch flat-blade screwdriver
Cisco CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter which consists of SFP+ module ends (4 channels), Twinax and Micro-Coax cables, and a QSFP+ port end.
Step 1 Loosen and remove the screws at the top and the bottom (one each), and the left and the right (two each) sides of the carriage assembly that secure the shipping bracket to the carriage assembly. Step 2 Pull the shipping bracket out of the assembly. Step 3 Save the shipping bracket and the screws in case you need to reinstall it. Step 4 Align the left rack-mount bracket with the six captive screw slots on the carriage assembly. Step 5 Secure the left rack-mount bracket onto the assembly with six of the screws provided. Step 6 Align the right rack-mount bracket with the six captive screw slots on the carriage assembly. Step 7 Secure the right rack-mount bracket onto the assembly with six of the screws provided. Step 8 Position the front side of the support flanges of the rack-mount brackets on the front-left and front-right posts of the rack and secure them by using the 10 screws (five screws one each side).
Note that all the 10 screws may not align with the screw slots on the rack. We recommend to use the first 4 screws (2 screws on each side) on the rack-mount bracket to secure the unit to the rack.
Step 9 Slide the flange of the cable-management bracket into its slot on the carriage assembly and secure it to the unit using the three screws provided. Step 10 Pull the tray out of the carriage assembly and insert the CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter into the designated slot.
Ensure that the guide-pin and the thumb screw guide on the tray is in alignment with the guide-pin hole on the adapter.
Step 11 After placing the adapter in its designated slot, slide the adapter back until it snaps into place and tighten the thumb-screw to secure the adapter to the tray. . Step 12 After securing the adapter to the tray, coil the excess adapter cable and place it on the back-side of the tray. Route the other end of the cable out through the cable-management fingers on the right and the left interior walls of the tray, and then through the slots of the cable-management bracket. You can connect the other end of the CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter to the SFP+ ports of any supported module. Step 13 If you choose to use only one CVR-4SFP10G-QSFP Reverse Adapter, you can use the single unit mounting bracket (CVR-BRKT-1) to mount it to the rack.
The single unit mounting bracket is shipped with the rack-mount extension bracket pre-attached. You can rack-mount the bracket in four different positions - left and right sides of both the rack posts. To install it on the left side of the rack posts, you have to remove the extension bracket from the mounting bracket and then reattach it to the bracket depending on the position of the rack.
Install the single unit mounting bracket as follows:
- Align the holes of the extension bracket with the holes on the right rails of the rack post.
- Secure the extension bracket to the rack post using the two screws provided.
- Place the adapter in its designated slot on the bracket and slide it back until it snaps into place.
- Tighten the thumb-screw to secure the adapter to the mounting bracket.
