Introduction
The Cisco Video Surveillance Standalone Encoders can be used to convert analog video sources into digital formats so they can be integrated into a networked IP-based video surveillance system. The devices can be used in a stacked configuration, or can be rack mounted. A power supply is included with each device.
The Release 1.2.0 firmware includes features that extend the functionality of the following Cisco Video Surveillance Standalone Encoder models:
•
CIVS-SENC-4P (4-port encoder)
•
CIVS-SENC-8P (8-port encoder)
Features
Cisco Video Surveillance Standalone Encoder firmware release 1.2.0 resolves caveat CSCue74282 (see the "Caveats" section) and adds support for variable bitrate configuration on the encoder. This feature requires VSM 7.0.1 or later.
Important Notes
PTZ Latency
When using Cisco Video Surveillance Operations Manager (VSOM) to control PTZ on a device that is connected to a Cisco Video Surveillance Standalone Encoder, there may be an end-to-end latency of up to 400 ms. This behavior is expected, particularly when using a Joystick.
Upgrading to Release 1.2.0
You can upgrade your encoder to firmware 1.2.0 by using the Firmware Upgrade feature in the VSM Management Console. For instructions, see the "Using the VSM Management Console" chapter in Cisco Video Surveillance Manager User Guide.
Alternatively, you can upgrade your encoder to release 1.2.0 by performing the following steps.
Procedure
Step 1
Take these actions to obtain the release 1.2.0 firmware:
a.
Go to one of the following URLs:
•
For the 4-port encoder
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=284364856&flowid=33162&softwareid=284368304&release=1.2.0&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest•
For the 8-port encoder
http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/release.html?mdfid=284364858&flowid=33163&softwareid=284368304&release=1.2.0&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latestb.
Locate and choose the 1.2.0 firmware file, which is named CIVS-SENC-4P-V1.2.0-4.pkg (4-port encoder) or CIVS-SENC-8P-V1.2.0-4.pkg (8-port encoder), and click Download.
c.
Log in and follow the on-screen prompts to download it to your PC.
Step 2
Take these actions to display the Maintenance window in the web interface for your encoder:
a.
Start Internet Explorer and enter the following in the address field:
protocol://ip_address:port_number
where:
–
protocol is the connection that you use for your encoder (either HTTPS or HTTP).
–
ip_address is the IP address of your encoder.
–
port_number is the port number that is used for HTTPS or HTTP connections to the encoder. You do not need to enter a port number if you are connecting through the default HTTPS port 443 or the default HTTP port 80.
b.
Enter your encoder user name and password when prompted, then click OK.
The encoder Home window appears.
c.
Click the Configuration link to access configuration menus for the encoder.
The System window appears.
d.
Click Maintenance.
The Maintenance window appears.
Step 3
In the Upgrade Firmware area, click the Browse button, choose the upgrade file, and then click Open.
The upgrade file may be stored on another PC.
Step 4
Click Upgrade.
Do not power down the encoder during the upgrade procedure.
After you upgrade the firmware, the encoder automatically restarts. It retains all configuration information.

Web browser
•
Cisco.com user ID and password
To use the Bug Toolkit, follow these steps:
Procedure
Step 1
To access the Bug Toolkit, go to http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/action.do?hdnAction=searchBugs.
Step 2
Log in with your Cisco.com user ID and password.
Step 3
To look for information about a specific problem, enter the bug ID number in the Search for bug ID field, then click Go.
Step 4
To look for information if you do not know the bug ID number:
a.
Choose Security from the Select Product Category menu.
b.
Choose the desired product from the Select Product menu.
c.
Choose the version number from the Software Version menu.
d.
Under Advanced Options, choose Use default settings or Use custom settings. The default settings search for severity 1, 2 and 3 bugs, open and fixed bugs, and only bugs containing bug details. Use the custom settings to change the severity and status parameters, or to search for keywords within the bug headline and description.
