Figure 1-1 describes the overall steps required to install Cisco ANA 3.7.1. Detailed instructions on how to perform each step are provided in subsequent chapters.
It is important to understand the Cisco ANA architecture to install the product correctly. For an overview of Cisco ANA and its features, see the Cisco Active Network Abstraction 3.7.1 Theory of Operations.

1. Create and configure Oracle 10g or Oracle 11g for use with Cisco ANA 3.7.1. See Chapter 3, "Creating and Configuring an Oracle Database."
2. Install Cisco ANA 3.7.1, as follows:
–If you are installing Cisco ANA 3.7.1 for the first time, follow the instructions in Chapter 4, "Installing a Cisco ANA Gateway" and Chapter 5, "Installing a Cisco ANA Unit."
–If you are upgrading to Cisco ANA 3.7.1 from an earlier version of Cisco ANA, follow the instructions in Chapter 10, "Upgrading to Cisco ANA 3.7.1."
3. Configure Cisco ANA 3.7.1 on the gateway and units. Use the ana-conf script as described in Installing the Cisco ANA Gateway and the Configuration and Image Management Component, page 4-4 and Installing the Cisco ANA Unit, page 5-3.
4. Install the required client applications. See Chapter 6, "Installing Cisco ANA Clients."
