The objective of this document is to help configure IPv6 Neighbors on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches. These settings allow the detection of same subnet node Link layer addresses and help receive information about the activeness and the ability to reach the neighbors.
Note: These settings can be configured only after IPv6 interface settings are configured.
• SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches
• v3.0.2.0
Step 1. At the web configuration utility choose System > System Management > IP Addressing > IPv6 Configuration > IPv6 Neighbors . The IPv6 Neighbors page opens:
Step 2. In Clear Table field, choose the desired field from the drop down list to delete the entries from the IPv6 Neighbor Table. The following options are available:
• Static Only — This will delete only the static entries.
• Dynamic Only — This will delete only the dynamic entries.
• Static and Dynamic — This will delete both static and dynamic entries from the table.
The IPv6 Neighbors table displays the following fields:
• Interface — This field displays the IPv6 interface type.
• IPv6 Address — The IPv6 address assigned to the interface is displayed.
• MAC Address — The Mac address assigned to the IPv6 address is displayed.
• Type — Displays if the neighbor discovery cache information entry is static or dynamic.
• State — Status of the IPv6 neighbor is displayed. The options are:
– Incomplete — This is displayed when the address resolution is in process and the neighbor has not responded.
– Reachable — This is displayed once the neighbor is reached.
– Stale — If a neighbor that was marked reachable is not found reachable the next time and if no verification takes place, stale message is displayed.
– Delay — If a neighbor that was marked reachable is not found reachable the next time and has a pre-defined delay time, delay message is displayed.
– Probe — If a neighbor is no longer reachable and unicast neighbor solicitation probes are sent to verify its reachability then Probe message is displayed.
Step 3.(Optional) To delete an existing IPv6 neighbor check on the corresponding check box and then click Delete.
Step 4. Click Add to add a new IPv6 neighbor. The Add IPv6 Neighbors window appears:
The Interface field displays the chosen interface.
Note: The interface displayed is same as the interface configured in the interface settings. In order to change the interface you need to reconfigure the IPv6 interface settings.
Step 5. In the IPv6 Address field, enter the IPv6 address that should be assigned to the interface. It should be in the hexadecimal format using 16-bit values between colons.
Step 6. In the MAC Address field, enter the MAC address to be mapped to the IPv6 address.
Step 7. Click Apply to save the configuration.
Caution: This only saves your configuration to the running configuration file. This means any changes made will be lost if the device is rebooted. If you wish to save these changes even after a system reboot, you need to copy the running configuration file to the startup configuration file. See Copy Configuration File on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches for more information on how to do this.
