One of the benefits of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is that it allows you to filter your notifications based on Object Identifiers (OIDs). OIDs are assigned to various aspects of your network, and are used to identify the parts of your network. This lowers the amount of SNMP notifications that are sent out.
The objective of this document is to show you how to configure an SNMP filter on SFE/SGE Managed Switches.
• SFE/SGE Managed Switches
• v3.0.2.0
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose System > SNMP > Trap Management > Filter Settings. The Filter Settings page opens:
Step 2. Click Add. The Add SNMP Notification Filter window opens:
Step 3. Enter a name for the filter in the Filter Name field.
Step 4. Click a radio button in the New Object Identifier Tree field to choose the object identifier tree you wish to filter.
• Select from List — Allows you to choose an Object Identifier (OID) tree to filter from the adjacent list. Click the Up and Down buttons to move up and down trees.
• Object ID — Allows you to enter an object ID in the adjacent field to filter OIDs not included in the other list.
Step 5. Choose a value from the Filter Type drop-down list to choose whether to include or exclude SNMP notifications from the filtered OIDs.
Step 6. Click Apply to save your filter.
Note: This only saves your configuration to the running configuration file. This means any changes made will be lost if the device is rebooted. If you wish to save these changes even after a system reboot, you need to copy the running configuration file to the startup configuration file. See Copy Configuration File on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches for more information on how to do this.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose System > SNMP > Trap Management > Filter Settings. The Filter Settings page opens:
Step 2. Check the check box next to the filter you wish to delete.
Step 3. Click the Delete button to delete the SNMP filter.
