Multicast is a method to send data to multiple recipients with the use of a single transmission at the same time. This article guides the user to create new multicast service groups, assign ports to specific multicast service group, and edit the multicast group settings on the SFE/SGE Managed Switches.
• SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches
• v3.0.2.0
Step 1. Log in the web configuration utility and choose Bridging > Multicast > Multicast Groups. The Multicast Group page opens:
Step 2. Check the Enable Bridge Multicast Filtering check box to enable multicast filtering on the device.
Step 3. Click Add. The Add Multicast Group page opens:
Step 4. From the VLAN ID drop-down list, choose the desired VLAN ID to add a bridge multicast address.
Step 5. In the Bridge Multicast IPv4 Address field, enter a valid IPv4 address.
Step 6. Click the empty Bridge Multicast MAC Address field, and the MAC address is automatically obtained.
Step 7. Click Apply. The Multicast Group page opens with the added Bridge Multicast Address.
Caution: This only saves your configuration to the running configuration file. This means any changes made will be lost if the device is rebooted. If you wish to save these changes even after a system reboot, you need to copy the running configuration file to the startup configuration file. See Copy Configuration File on SFE/SGE Series Managed Switches for more information on how to do this.
Step 1. Log in the web configuration utility and choose Bridging > Multicast > Multicast Groups. The Multicast Group page opens:
Step 2. Click either the Ports or LAGs radio button.
• Ports — Displays the Multicast Group status of all the ports of the specified stacking members.
• LAGs — Link Aggregation (LAGs) allow the switch to treat multiple physical links between two end points as a single local link.
Step 3. Click Edit on the corresponding Port or LAGs. The Edit Multicast Group page opens:
Step 4. From the Interface Status drop-down list, choose the desired option.
• Static — The interface is attached to the multicast group as a static member.
• Forbidden — It specifies the interface is not allowed to join the Multicast group. Even if the IGMP snooping is designated the interface to join a multicast group.
• Excluded — It specifies the interface is excluded from the Multicast group.
• Dynamic — It indicates the interface joined the Multicast group as a result of IGMP / MLD snooping.
Step 5. Click Apply.
