The WAN / Gateway status of the router provides some basic information on the router (for example, firmware version, time) and WAN port MAC/IP address and connection status. IP connection tracking (IP Conntrack) tracks networks connections to relate packets back to the connection they belong to. By recognizing different protocols, a stateful firewall can use this information to discern packets that belong to an established connection and filter the packets that do not. Connection tracking can be used by a firewall to block incoming connections, but allow outgoing connections and vice versa. This document explains how to check the gateway status on the WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router.
• WRVS4400N Wireless-N Gigabit Security Router
• v2.0.1.3
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Status > WAN/Gateway. The WAN/Gateway page opens:
The following information describes the current status of the device:
• Firmware Version — Shows the current version firmware that the router uses.
• MAC Address — Shows the WAN MAC address that the device used to identify with the Internet Service Provider (ISP).
• Current Time — Shows the configured date and time.
The following information describes the current status of the internet connection :
• Connection Mode — Shows what type of connection is used to connect to internet in the WAN port.
• Interface — Shows the current status of the WAN port. There are two possible values, Up and Down.
• IP Address — Shows the IP address of the WAN port.
• Subnet Mask — Shows the current subnet mask of the WAN port.
• Default Gateway — Shows the router that the network used to connect to internet or other networks.
• DNS — Shows the IP address of the DNS server that the WAN port uses.
Step 1. (Optional) To allow the WAN port releases and IP address when uses DHCP click DHCP Release button.
Step 2. (Optional) To allow the WAN port renew the IP address when uses DHCP click DHCP Renew button.
Step 1. Click the 'IP Conntrack' button to open the IP Conntrack window. The following information is displayed:
The following information describes the IP Conntrack table.
• Protocol — Displays the protocol that the packet is currently using .
• Life Time — Displays the time that the connection between the router and the host has been used. This time is given in seconds.
• State — Displays the current status of the connection between the router and the host.
– Established — indicates an active connection.
– TIME_WAIT — indicates a connection that has been closed, but is still being tracked so that out of order packets can still make it through the firewall.
• Source IP (Original Direction) — Displays the IP address of the source of the original direction of the packet.
• Source Port (Original Direction) — Displays the port number of the source of the original direction of the packet.
• Destination IP (Original Direction) — Displays the IP address of the destination of the reply direction of the packet
• Destination Port (Original Direction) — Displays the port number of the destination of the reply direction of the packet
• Source IP (Reply Direction) — Displays the IP address of the source of the reply direction of the packet
• Source Port (Reply Direction) — Displays the port number of the source of the reply direction of the packet.
• Destination IP (Reply Direction) — Displays the IP address of the destination of the original direction of the packet
• Destination Port (Reply Direction) — Displays the port number of the destination of the original direction of the packet
Step 2. (Optional) To refresh the IP Conntrack table, click Refresh.
