Application-Oriented Networking (AON)

Cisco Application-Oriented Networking (AON) is teaming up with a number of industry-leading independent software vendors (ISVs) to create a strong ecosystem of applications that can leverage the AON product suite. Learn more about these partnerships and how Cisco Application-Oriented Networking is working with these partners to solve business problems.

AON Overview for Partners

Cisco's Application-Oriented Networking family of products provides a suite of intelligent network-based application infrastructure services. Embedding these services in the network fabric enables applications to communicate more effectively and to seamlessly leverage information resources across the extended enterprise.

The AON family of products enables the network to natively understand application messages, provides a suite of modular application infrastructure services that can be used to define application policies, and combines centralized management of these application policies with pervasive, distributed deployment and enforcement.

  • Send: Message Routing: AON enables businesses to more effectively send messages between applications (translation/ transformation, content-based routing, application-level load balancing and failover, support for reliable delivery of messages)
  • Secure: Application-level Security: AON provides a ranges of application security functions for messages (digital signatures and verification, encryption/decryption, authentication, authorization, certificate management, PKI, schema validation)
  • See: Business and Infrastructure Visibility: AON provides a pervasive, integrated fabric to capture both business events and infrastructure conditions

AON Form Factor: Blade in a Router or Switch

AON's unique footprint and pervasive reach allows it to Capture and 'see' events not necessarily seen by other infrastructure layers, and to interact with both the Underlying network and application layers, providing superior visibility and control for the business.

Cisco is working closely with Cisco Technology Developer Partners on these products to achieve closer convergence between the previously separate worlds of networking and applications – the Network is now more Application-aware and Applications more Network-aware.

AON module, AMC, and ADS

There are two main integrations points for ISVs:

  • Build a custom adaptor that interoperates and takes advantage of the AON message traffic
  • Build a customer bladelette that sits within the AON Network Fabric and executes instructions that communicate with the application layer and AON

The program is available to the ISV community but inclusion will be determined by the AON Team:

Interested ISVs should visit the Cisco Technology Developer Program (CTDP) website to learn more about the program and how to apply. The AON team will review the application and determine the eligibility of the ISV to join the program.

AON Solution Categories

  • AON for Financial Services Solutions
  • AON for RFID Solutions - AON is working with the ISV community to create RFID specific solutions
  • AON for Security Solutions
  • AON for Visibility Solutions - AON is working with the ISV community to create solutions that create visibility into the message traffic that AON can provide by being part of the network fabric
