Q. What is the Cisco® Developer Network Program?

A. The Cisco Developer Network Program represents the evolution of the Cisco Technology Developer Program and is designed to provide you with more open access to Cisco technologies in addition to expanded and enhanced resources to help support every phase of your business cycle. It also helps implement our goal of improving your experience based on your feedback and making it easier to work with Cisco by providing better systems and processes, clear paths for access to resources and advancement, and transparency throughout our relationship. This evolution will better enable us to collaborate, adapt to our ever-changing business environment, and address the needs of our joint customers.

Q. How will the Cisco Developer Network Program be different from the Cisco Technology Developer Program?

A. The Cisco Developer Network Program will offer expanded and enhanced technical, marketing, and sales enablement resources, as well as a new program framework and streamlined management processes:

  • Enhanced technical resources. We will provide comprehensive, case-based support to assist in your development and testing efforts. You will also have access to the Cisco Developer Community portal, which is a Web 2.0 environment providing easy access to APIs, software development kits, online forums, blogs, wikis, and Cisco’s developer community. In addition, you will receive invitations to attend virtual and in-person events intended to keep you up to date on Cisco technologies.
  • Improved marketing resources. We will augment and build upon many of the co-marketing benefits you take advantage of today, including company profile, program logo usage, PR, and events participation, and offer additional benefits based on your commitment and achievement.
  • Expanded sales resources. We will help enable developer-to-developer and developer-to-reseller collaboration and bring forward programs that connect you to Cisco’s direct and indirect sales channels. We will also provide a vehicle for you to demonstrate your value to our joint customers and to Cisco with new deal-tracking and customer reference reporting tools.
  • New program framework and streamlined management processes. We will institute a three-tiered, fee-based program with incremental requirements, entitlements, benefits, and advancement criteria that recognize and reward your investment, commitment, and achievement. We will also implement new systems, revamped websites, and improved documentation to make working with Cisco easier.

Q. How will the Cisco Developer Network Program work?

A. There are three levels of participation in the Cisco Developer Network Program:

  • Registered Developer (entry-level participation)
  • Solution Developer (midlevel participation)
  • Preferred Solution Developer (the highest level of participation)

Most companies will enter the program at the Registered Developer level. Based on your level of participation, acceptance of the Cisco Developer Network Program agreement, payment of applicable participation fees, and completion of other milestones, you will be eligible to take advantage of a set of program entitlements to support every phase of your business cycle. Solution Developers and Preferred Solution Developers may qualify for additional benefits upon completion of applicable requirements and achievement. Please see the Cisco Developer Network Program Evolution Webcast presentation for more information about program participation levels, requirements, entitlements, and benefits.

Registered Developers and Solution Developers may qualify to advance to the next level of participation by satisfying participation-level requirements and earning program points. Developers can earn points by demonstrating the ability to provide customer support 24 hours a day, establishing labs for development and/or testing, entering closed deals, and providing customer references.

Q. What is the annual participation fee, and what will it include?

A. The annual participation fee includes the expanded and enhanced resources we are offering under the Cisco Developer Network Program. Please see the Cisco Developer Network Program Evolution Webcast presentation for a detailed list of program entitlements and benefits available at each level of participation. It will not include costs associated with interoperability verification testing or participating in events.

Here is a summary of the participation fees by level and theater:

Registered Developer Solution Developer Preferred Solution Developer
Americas (Canada, U.S., Latin America) and EMEA
$3,500
$5,000
$5,000
Asia Pacific (including China, India, and Japan)
$1,000
$1,500

Q. How will transition of existing Cisco Technology Developer Program (CTDP) and Cisco Compatible eXtensions (CCX) members into the new Cisco Developer Network (CDN) program work?

A. Existing CTDP and CCX members will be invited to join CDN in two phases. Phase 1 will begin in the summer of 2009 and will include companies that participate in the CCX Program and the following CTDP Solution Sets:

  • Contact Center
  • Integrated Services Routers
  • IP Communications
  • Network and Service Management
  • Wireless Networking (excludes program members under Cisco 3200 Series Routers solution categories: Embedded Hardware Systems, Embedded Software Systems, Solution Enablers – Indoor, and Solution Enablers – Outdoor, Video)

Important Note: Unless otherwise directed by your Cisco relationship manager, you should no longer submit new or modify existing applications under these Solution Sets in the CTDP system. You should wait until you are invited to join CDN to access the new system and submit new applications under these areas.

Phase 2 will begin in late 2009 through 2010 and will include companies that participate in the following CTDP Solution Sets:

  • Application Network Services
  • Converged Building Solutions
  • Data Center Switching
  • IOS
  • Mobile Wireless
  • Security (networked and physical)
  • Wireless Networking (includes program members under Cisco 3200 Series Routers solution categories only)

Once you receive an invitation to join, you will have at least 30 days to enroll before your CTDP or CCX membership ends. Whether you join or do not join CDN within the given timeframe, your CTDP or CCX agreement will be terminated and you will be required to cease all references in advertising, marketing materials, and publications to the participation of your company in CTDP or CCX, and to cease all display and use of the CTDP or CCX logos. Cisco will also remove any profiles for your company that are available in the CTDP Find a Partner tool or the CCX website. Additionally, unless current CCX Partners join CDN, access to specifications, test plans, scripts and SDKs will no longer be available through current online methods. By joining CDN within the given timeframe, you will ensure that your company has a searchable profile on the CDN website and uninterrupted access to many of the same benefits it had under CTDP or CCX as well as additional program benefits.

Q. What if my company participates under more than one Cisco Technology Developer Program Solution Set, with one being migrated during Phase 1 and the other during Phase 2?

A. If, for example, your company participates under IP Communications (Phase 1 migration) and Security (Phase 2), and joins the Cisco Developer Network (CDN) program during Phase 1, your company’s participation under Security will remain active under CTDP, and the terms of the CTDP agreement will apply to it until it is migrated under CDN. The terms of the new CDN program agreement will apply to your company’s participation in the Unified Communications technology category (formerly named IP Communications).

Q. If my company participates under more than one technology category in the Cisco Developer Network program, will it need to pay a higher fee to join?

A. No, the annual fee covers your company’s participation in the program, regardless of the number of technology categories it participates in.

Q. How long will my company have to join the Cisco Developer Network program?

A. Your company can join CDN at any time after it is invited, but we encourage you to join the program as quickly as possible so that you can start taking advantage of the enhanced benefits it provides.

Q. How will my participation level be determined?

A. Your Cisco relationship manager will determine your participation level based on your achievement in the Cisco Technology Developer Program and the extent to which you meet the participation level requirements of the Cisco Developer Network Program. Most companies will enter the program at the Registered Developer level and will have the opportunity to advance if they achieve the minimum point total and meet the requirements for a higher level. See slide 11 in the Cisco Developer Network Program Evolution Webcast presentation for more information.

Q. If my company joins the Cisco Developer Network Program, will I need to re-enter our existing company and product information and/or perform interoperability verification testing again?

A. When you join the Cisco Developer Network Program, your existing company, product, and interoperability verification testing information will be migrated into the new system. Once the content migration is completed, you may need to make minor updates or provide some additional information based on new data we are capturing on developers in the program.

Q. My company has already completed interoperability verification testing under the Cisco Technology Developer Program. Will we be automatically invited to join the Cisco Developer Network Program at the Solution Developer level?

A. No, but successful completion of interoperability verification testing with recent Cisco product versions is one of the criteria we will consider when determining which participation level is appropriate for your company.

Q. Will interoperability verification testing be required to participate in the Registered Developer level?

A. No, interoperability verification testing is not required at the Registered Developer level. The purpose of interoperability verification testing is to ensure that developer offerings meet Cisco’s quality, reliability, redundancy, and performance requirements. By completing interoperability verification testing, you gain access to the Cisco Compatible logo, become eligible to issue a template-based press release announcing the successful test, and meet one of the requirements to advance and take advantage of additional benefits.

Q. How is the Cisco Compatible eXtensions Program (CCX) impacted by the Cisco Developer Network Program?

A. The CCX Program covers a very important technology that we intend to maintain and grow. We will be moving the CCX Program under the Cisco Developer Network Program to provide a greater degree of benefits and support for the CCX community, including relationship logos and product discounts for labs. As a result, the CCX “Program” will be retired, but CCX will continue as a key technology under the Cisco Developer Network Program. This transition will require all CCX Developers to sign the Cisco Developer Network Program Agreement to maintain membership. All CCX history, including successful interoperability verification testing and associated rights to the Cisco Compatible logo, will follow developers as they transition to the Cisco Developer Network Program.

Q. How will the Cisco Developer Network Program affect the Solution Incentive Program (SIP) and the Industry Solution Partner Network (ISPN)?

A. There will be no changes to SIP pre-qualification. Developers that are currently participating in ISPN or have an application pre-qualified for SIP will continue. The Cisco Developer Network Program will create a much tighter linkage between the developer program and ISPN with a focus on the go-to-market through Channels.
