UNRWA's MissionFollowing the 1948 Arab-Israeli conflict UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, was established by United Nations General Assembly to carry out direct relief and works programs for Palestine refugees. Originally envisaged as a temporary organization, the Agency has gradually adjusted its programs to meet the changing needs of the refugees. Today, UNRWA provides education, health, and relief and social services to 3.8 million registered Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, the Syrian Arab Republic, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Partnership SummaryThrough the partnership with UNRWA and the US government, Academies have been established at UNRWA Training Centers Lebanon, Syria, West Bank, and Gaza. All the UNRWA training centers are located in refugee camps, and the establishment of the Academy Program in the camps will provide access to training for Palestinian refugees in the region. Instructors from the Regional Academy and Local Academies have been trained and have been teaching classes since November 2001. For more information on:
