Student in IT Studies

I joined the Cisco Networking Academy Program in my second year of studying in UMS. To tell you the truth, at first I wasn’t keen on joining the program. At that time the mention of the word “network” was to me just another name for tangled wires and more tangled terms that seemed to baffle me. However I took the challenge of learning something new.

During the program, I discovered that I like how the program offers hands-on approach to the latest networking technology. There are occasions where we would experiment with networking hardware in the lab. Applying theory to real life situations, this is something, in my opinion, that we as IT students’ are lacking.

It is in my opinion that a hands-on method of learning enhances a student’s ability to understand and relate to technology. Our University’s syllabus leans more towards theory, but the Cisco Networking Academy Program gave us the much needed practical experience. This helped to balance the university curriculum.

The program is comprehensive and it gave us a strong foundation in networking. I find that the foundation that CNAP has given me makes me even eager to learn and explore new aspects of networking - something that I have been unable to do before due to a lack of basic knowledge. I have learned that there are vast possibilities in networking.

Lastly, I must say that I’m glad that I decided to join the program. Every time a lecturer insists that we students must put ourselves on the cutting edge to gain an extra advantage, I am glad that I have my CNAP experience as a means to gain that cutting edge advantage.
