The University of Galati is located within the industrialized region of Galati in Romania. It has 13 colleges and 40 departments, including a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Programs include: Computer Science, Communication & Networking, Artificial Intelligence, Control Systems, and various engineering fields. Each year, rougly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students enroll in the University, including as many as 1,000 sduents enrolled in the areas of Computer Science, Communication & Networking, Automatics and Electronics.
The Cisco Networking Academy at the University of Galati has access to two computer labs, each with 15 computers. By May of 2003, the Academy had over 100 students enrolled. As a member of the ITU-Cisco ITC Initiative, the University of Galati is committed to ensuring access to female students. By May of 2003, 46% of students were female. Additionally, three of the four trained instructors were also female. As stated by the center, "Women will be encouraged to attend the ITCI programs and also we intend to attract more women of the existing teaching staff in this project."
