Established April 2002
Lilongwe Technical College was built by the Malawi Government in 1963 with the objective of helping to industrialize the country. It is now the largest public technical college in the country, with a capacity of 160 students. The College was selected as a site for a Cisco Networking Academy because of its dedication to practical training and its commitment to educate and empower female students. The College offers enrollment in the Cisco Academy to its own students, as well as students from the Bunda College of Agriculture, NGOs, government ministries, and working professionals. As of May 2003, 40% of Lilongwe’s students and two of its four instructors were female.
The laboratory used by the Academy has 19 Dell Dimension computers, networking equipment, and high speed internet access. It is available to students 4 hours per day, six days per week.
