The Arab Academy for Science & Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) is located in Alexandria, Egypt. It is one of the best institutions for the teaching of technology and management related fields, and so caters to a large amount of students within Egypt. Annually, the school enrolls more than 10,000 students. It offers more than 100 courses per year in fields related to information technology and many additionally courses in areas such as business management and maritime transportation. It also partners with the American University in Alexandria to offer students at both schools greater access to IT courses.
AASTMT was selected as the site for an ITU-Cisco Internet Training Center because of its existing infrastructure for technology training and its large student base. Of the total 10,000 students, more than half enroll each year in IT-related courses. The school also has a large technically trained staff; before the Cisco Networking Academy was introduced, AASTMT had ten eligible instructors, eight that were CCNA certified and two with CCNP certification. The school has more than 800 PCs running Windows 98 or Windows XP, all of which are connected via high speed network. Four total labs, consisting of more than 100 PCs, will be used for the Cisco Networking Academy.
