Academy Profile

National Institute of Telecommunications
Regional Academy
Established April 4, 2002

The National Institute of Telecommunications, I-Tel, is a teaching institution of the Angolan state dedicated to technical and telecommunications training. As of May 2003, I-Tel had registered more than 2100 students for technical training, 20% of which were female. The Institute offers such programs as Telecommunications Technician and Computer Science Technician. Many graduates of I-Tel often go on to work in Angola’s IT sector.

I-Tel was selected to be a regional Cisco Networking Academy in April 2002. By May of 2003, it already had over 100 enrolled students, 33 of which were women. All students have access to 48 computers, a Cisco Router 3600, a Linux Firewall Server, and a Cisco Switch.

As a regional academy, I-Tel is responsible for helping Angola’s four other academies and the 120+ students enrolled at those schools. For the future, I-Tel hopes to extend to other provinces within Angola and become "an excellent training place in Angola."
