Detailed Information

This module discusses different QoS queuing techniques and explains the importance of queuing in a VoIP network. Topics covered in this module include: Priority Queuing, IP RTP Priority, weighted fair queuing (WFQ), IP precedence, class-based weighted fair queuing (for data), and LLQ. You will also do three hands-on Configuration Labs to learn some different aspects of fundamental LFI concepts by configuring both MLP and FRF.12, and a Challenge Lab to test your troubleshooting knowledge of LLQ.

Objectives:

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate how queuing improves QoS for a voice-over-IP (VoIP) network
  • Describe the specific features of Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ) as a QoS queuing technique in a network
  • Compare and contrast the functions of the different queuing techniques of:
    • Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ)
    • Priority Queuing, Weighted Fair Queuing (PQWFQ – also known as IP RTP Priority)
    • Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing (CBWFQ)
    • Low-Latency Queuing (LLQ - also known as Priority Queue, Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing or (PQCBWFQ))

Labs

  • Configuration of IP Precedence to give voice traffic priority over data traffic
  • Use of IP RTP Priority Queuing to create a strict priority queuing scheme
  • Configuration of LLQ using class maps and access lists
  • Challenge Lab
