In this module, you will learn the basic concepts behind RIP. You will also do hands-on Configuration Labs to learn some fundamental concepts of RIP, and a Challenge Lab to test your troubleshooting knowledge.

Objectives:

At the end of this tutorial, you will be able to:

• Describe a RIP routing table
• Describe the RIP metric and discuss its advantages and disadvantages
• Discuss RIP timers and describe the function of each one
• Understand and discuss the stability features of RIP
• Identify the differences between RIP Version 1 and RIP Version 2
• Describe the RIP packet format (for both versions of RIP) and discuss the packet fields and their purposes
• Use the basic commands necessary to maintain and troubleshoot RIP in Cisco IOS software.
