Recertification is an important indicator to IT professionals and their employers, ensuring that the certification holder has kept up with current trends in networking technology. Valid certifications may be renewed indefinitely, but without timely renewal, certifications expire or become inactive. To keep certifications current, individuals should recertify by advancing to the next level of certification or passing the designated recertification exam(s).
Recertification Renewal Timeframes
CCENT, CCNA, CCNA Security, CCNA Voice, CCNA Wireless, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, CCSP, CCVP, and CCIP certifications are valid for three years.
All CCIE certifications are valid for two years and must be recertified by the deadline to remain on active status.
Specialist certifications are valid for two years and can be renewed by retaking all exams required for the certification.Cisco Sales Expert (CSE) designations are valid for two years and must be recertified regardless of other certifications you have achieved, are currently pursuing or are in the process of recertifying.
How to Recertify
Renewal requires certification holders to register for and pass the appropriate Cisco recertification exam(s). In order to recertify, exam requirements must be met prior to the certification expiration date. Individuals with an expired certification(s) must repeat the entire certification exam process in order to regain their certification(s). Visit the Cisco Career Certifications Tracking System to check the status of your certification(s).
If you are a Cisco Partner employee, you may use the Partner E-Learning Connection to prepare for your recertification exam(s).
Register and pass the certification exam(s) with Pearson VUE. Register by phone or by using Pearson VUE's online registration system at www.pearsonvue.com/cisco/.

Complete one of the following recertification options:
Pass your current certification exam. For CCENT and CCNA, ICND 2 will also recertify.
Pass a CCNA Concentration exam (wireless, security, voice)
Pass the current CCDA exam
Pass a current Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams)
Pass any Professional level exam bearing a 642 prefix
Pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam
Achieving or recertifying any of the certifications above automatically extends your active CCENT, CCNA, and CCDA certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved
CCNA Security CCNA Voice CCNA Wireless
Complete one of the following recertification options:
Pass a CCNA Concentration exam (voice, wireless, security)
Pass a current Specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist exams)
Pass any Professional level exam bearing a 642 prefix
Pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam
Achieving or recertifying any of the certifications above automatically extends your active Associate level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved
CCNP, CCDP, CCIP, CCSP, and CCVP
Complete one of the following recertification options:
Pass any 642 exam that is part of the professional level curriculum after 01/01/06
Pass any current CCIE or CCDE written exam
Achieving or recertifying any of the certifications above automatically extends your active Associate and Professional level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved
Specialist Certifications
Complete one of the following recertification options every two years:
Re-take and pass all exams for each Specialist certification indicated on the specific certification page. Please note: this includes ALL exams whether refreshed or not.
Pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam
Achieving or recertifying CCDE or any CCIE automatically extends your active Specialist certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
Complete one of the following recertification options:
Pass all Specialist certification exam(s) indicated on the specific certification page
Pass a current CCSP exam
Pass a current CCIE or CCDE written exam
Achieving or recertifying a CCSP, CCDE or any CCIE above automatically extends your active Specialist certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
Cisco Sales Expert designation
Complete the Cisco Sales Expert exam within the 24 month period preceding your recertification deadline. Review the Channel Partner Program for more information.
CCIE
Complete one CCIE or CCDE written exam within the 24 month period immediately preceding your current recertification deadline. Review CCIE Recertification for more information.
Having an active CCIE or CCDE certification automatically extends your active Associate, Professional, Specialist, and Expert level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
CCDE
Complete one CCDE written exam within the 24 month period immediately preceding your current recertification deadline.
Having an active CCDE certification automatically extends your active Associate, Professional, Specialist, and Expert level certification(s) up to the point of expiration of the last certification achieved.
