Cisco Security Specialist certifications focus on the growing network security market. Cisco Security Specialist 1 shows proficiency in designing, installing, and supporting Cisco security solutions.
After February 28, 2003, no additional Cisco Security Specialist 1 certificates will be issued. Candidates currently working toward this certification can either complete their Cisco Security Specialist 1 certification prior to that time or use the exams they have already passed towards the Cisco Certified Security Professional ( CCSP) certification.

To obtain a Cisco Career Certification, you must read and accept the terms of the Cisco Career Certifications and Confidentiality Agreement. Failure to complete this step will prohibit processing of any Cisco Career Certification application.

Because this certification is retiring after February 28, 2003, there is no recertification option available. Cisco Security Specialist 1 certification holders are encouraged to pursue the new Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) which is valid for 3 years. Until September 30, 2003, those with a Cisco Security Specialist 1 certification and valid CCNA (or equivalent certification) can become a CCSP by passing only one additional exam, 9E0-131 CSI.
