Exam Topics

The following information provides general guidelines for the content likely to be included on the exam. However, other related topics may also appear on any specific delivery of the exam.

Identify and describe the relevant technologies that apply to a Converged Network Design

  • Determine the wireless RF patterns and loads, AP overlap and RF containment
  • Determine load and interaction of VPN connections
  • Determine the appropriate port load on routers, switches, modules and appliances for a given network application environment
  • Determine when and how environmental factors effect network device performance
  • Describe the capabilities of a CCME installation
  • Describe the capabilities of a Unity Express installation
  • Identify security issues with a converged network implementation
  • Determine when and how to deploy QoS techniques to resolve bandwidth or traffic loads

Analyze the existing customer environment

  • Identify the technologies and protocols running on an existing customer network
  • Use existing customer documentation to determine the current operational state of the customer's network
  • Identify the customer goals and requirements for the converged network
  • Describe the characteristics of the customer's business
  • Evaluate customer business needs to identify opportunities to use the network to meet or exceed the customer business requirements
  • Determine the suitability of the environment to support a converged network solution
  • Evaluate the customer's installed security devices, configurations and policies

Propose a converged network solution that will meet customer needs

  • Identify Cisco and partner resources to research components of a customer solution
  • Describe and create reference diagram of proposed solution including both legacy and new devices
  • Research competitive products and identify pro and cons
  • Research proposed products for interoperability
  • Identify network management issues and resolve or identify solution
  • Identify partner or Cisco based services for ongoing customer maintenance
  • Describe the administration requirements for a Cisco CCME/CUE installation
  • Identify pricing and suitability for customer budget
  • Identify financing options if necessary

Test and validate the proposed converged network solution

  • Use partner or Cisco lab to test design and all devices, including third party devices, as necessary
  • Review reference designs or CPOC case studies to resolve lab discovery issues
  • Test all components for interoperability and simulate load to be used in the customer environment
  • Create pilot project for on-site customer evaluation of proposed solution
  • Create documentation of the proposed solution for presentation to the customer
  • Adjust proposal to reflect changes discovered during research and testing

Prepare, install and maintain the proposed converged network solution at the customer site

  • Create delivery and installation plan and calendar, taking into account availability, lead times and delivery methods
  • Unpack components to staging area, verify condition and validate order, assemble for configuration and testing
  • Identify and schedule resources and timeline for customer installation
  • Develop a regular maintenance schedule based on installed products
  • Setup connectivity to partner based services or schedule ongoing maintenance

Maintain customer satisfaction after installation of a converged network solution

  • Test the final install to insure all components are operating as proposed
  • Prepare final documentation and record all device configurations
  • Survey the customer on all aspects from initial meeting to production
  • Collect the appropriate information to provide to TAC when placing a trouble ticket call
