Donald R. Proctor Biography
As Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Software Group, Don Proctor is responsible for Cisco’s software business including the Network Systems Software Group which develops IOS, the network operating system; the Network Management Group, which develops management products and service across Cisco’s portfolio; the Voice Technology Group, which develops Cisco’s Unified Communications products; the Collaboration Software Group, which develops Cisco’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products and services; the Global Government Solutions Group, which develops solutions to meet the needs of government organizations; and the Research and Advanced Technologies Group.
Proctor joined Cisco in 1995 and has held a variety of leadership positions in the company’s enterprise, service provider, and commercial businesses. He was previously responsible for leading Cisco’s Voice Technology Group, which developed Cisco’s IP telephony systems, IP phones, customer contact solutions, and unified communications solutions. Under his leadership, Cisco grew from an early innovator in the VoIP market to become the leading global supplier of business voice solutions.
Earlier in his tenure at Cisco, he led the product team that developed Cisco’s first integrated voice/data router. He also served as Vice President and General Manager of Cisco’s multiservice carrier switching and voice gateway business units. Prior to joining Cisco, he worked for software maker Sybase.
In addition to his current responsibilities, Proctor is a leader of Cisco’s Development Council, the decision-making group for Cisco’s Development Organization. He also serves as the co-leader of Cisco’s Enterprise Business Council and is a member of Cisco’s Diversity and Inclusion Council, Political Action Committee board, and Green IT board.
A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Proctor has taught in the Telecommunications Engineering program at the UC Berkeley Extension and is a lecturer at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
