Government: IT for Economic Development

Several central and local government organizations today are focused on the development of Innovation initiatives with the objective of stimulating Economic Development. Information and Communication Technologies play an important role in this area in many aspects. This highly interactive breakout session will initially focus on the main drivers for Innovation at national and local level and on the role that ICT plays. Critical success factors enabling successful Public-Private partnerships, aimed at Economic Development, will be one of the discussions topics. A specific focus will relate to the development of Cluster-Based Innovation initiatives and on the role that Broadband telecommunications infrastructures play in this area. In order to facilitate the interaction among participants, this session will include brief presentations on international, national and local best practices alternated to a number of "challenges" the audience will need to solve, working in sub-groups.

The Trust Cluster: Dealing Effectively with Security, Privacy, Identity and Authentication at the Heart of Connected Government

In this Specialist Session, participants will have an opportunity to explore the 'trust cluster' of issues dealing with security, identity and authentication. Finding practical and effective ways to deal with trust remains central to lift the confidence of citizens as they increasingly migrate to online and virtual channels to access a wider range of services from, and interaction with, government at all levels.

Speakers will include international experts on the trust issues in connected government as well as government leaders from jurisdictions around the world who will share their ideas and strategies.

Breaking Down Departmental Silos

The focus of this session will be the strategies governments need to adopt to break down departmental silos and secure the real benefits of e-transformation. Each half-day session will be launched by high profile expert practitioners whose insights will provide the basis for interactive group sessions where senior public servants will get the opportunity to network with each other by exchanging thoughts, views and experiences in relation to a specific issue. The theme for the first session will be driving transformational change across departmental boundaries through tools such as a government-wide CIO council - what are governments currently doing and what do they need to do to maximise benefits from IT investment. The theme for the second session will be shared services -- what are the potential benefits of shared services, what are the obstacles, what are the risks in moving to shared services and how can shared services best be taken forward
