On Monday 7 July 2003, Anthony Bravo became the first Principal of Crossways Academy. Although born and brought up in North London, he has been living and working south of the River for the past 17 years.
Mr. Bravo comes from a very mixed background which includes African, Caribbean and European influences. In his younger days he travelled most of the world including, Africa; West Indies; Americas and most of Europe. He looks forward to also visiting Asia someday.
He qualified as a teacher at Newcastle University, after gaining a degree in Agriculture and Environmental Science. Education has always been his passion; however, he also loved working in the private sector and became the first black graduate management trainee at Marks & Spencer. He continued his career in retail, particularly Area Management and Training and initiated training programmes at the Marks & Spencer flagship store in Marble Arch.
Mr. Bravo re-entered the education sector some 17 years ago and remained for 15 of those years in an FE environment, focusing particularly on partnership, community, income generation and most recently workforce development. Some of his proudest achievements pre - Crossways; have been securing Lottery Funding for the Black Leadership Centre; the development of online NVQ's and a couple of Centres of Excellence.
Prior to the Crossways Academy project the last major projects he had responsibility for were a multi-million pound capacity building project for community groups funded from the European Social Fund, and the development and expansion of LearnDirect for the North London (central) region.
