The use of synchronous and asynchronous visual media technologies are playing a major role in Duke University’s work to create a campus with no borders. Their goal is to better educate the next generation of leaders by providing a depth and breadth of understanding of the interconnected nature of all the cultures and peoples of the world. This session will focus on some of the current projects at Duke, such as the newly opened TelePresence lecture hall at the Fuqua School of Business which seats up to 140 people. Other topics will include the challenges and opportunities in the implementation of a broad range of collaboration and media distribution technologies in teaching and learning for both graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as some current and planned uses of collaboration technologies.
Marthin De Beer is the Senior Vice President of Cisco's Emerging Technologies Business Group. Under his leadership, this group is responsible for cultivating a steady stream of new businesses that can take Cisco into new adjacent markets. Founded by De Beer, this team has developed innovative technologies such as Cisco TelePresence conferencing, Cisco TelePresence Exchange Services, Digital Media Systems, Media Processing, Video Surveillance Systems, and Converged Building Systems. He also responsible for the newly formed Cisco Smart Grid business unit and is heading the Smart Grid initiative at Cisco.
Previously, De Beer was responsible for Cisco's Global Enterprise IP Communications solutions and led the introduction of Cisco's Architecture for Voice, Video, and Integrated Data solution. He played a primary role in taking Cisco's IP communications business from inception to a large profitable business.
