Cisco IT Case Study: Implementing Next-Generation Data Center Solutions
Presented by Sidney Morgan, Senior Manager, Cisco IT Customer Strategy and Success
Session Description: The current economic business climate is putting greater pressure on data center managers to improve resource utilization, reduce power/cooling costs, and provide faster provisioning. Cisco IT is no different. We are addressing these challenges by designing and deploying next-generation data center solutions that also use EMC storage products.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:
Understand the Cisco IT global data center strategy, which takes advantage of EMC storage products
Understand how Cisco IT has transformed its data center architecture to automate and virtualize storage, networks, and servers
Learn from Cisco’s experiences in bringing online a new data center in Richardson, Texas
Wednesday, May 20, 4:15 pm – 5:15 pm
Cisco Data Center 3.0: Virtualized, Unified, and Green
Presented by Peter Linkin, Product Manager, Data Center Solutions, Cisco
Session Description: Data center virtualization is evolving in three areas: networking, compute, and virtualization. As customers deploy more advanced virtualization capabilities, operational complexity increases and become an expensive challenge. Cisco’s Data Center 3.0 strategy brings these three areas together to address virtualized data centers in collaboration with EMC.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:
Understand how Cisco is unifying networks, compute, and virtualization for EMC storage environments
Understand the role of unified fabric in a virtualization environment and how Fibre Channel over Ethernet can reduce complexity/costs
Learn how virtualization and unified computing can help you minimize capital expenditures and operating expenses while increasing your data center efficiencies
Visit the Cisco booth 501, where we will be featuring our Data Center 3.0 solutions in a series of live demonstrations and theater presentations.
Planned demonstrations in the Cisco booth include:
VM Optimized SAN
A demonstration of the Cisco MDS 9000 Family advanced features required for fabric (SAN) scalability, performance management, trending and capacity planning for each VM, VM mobility without compromising security, service differentiation (QoS) per VM, and data protection per VM.
Data Center Management
See how integrated, topology-aware fabric and switch management simplifies configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting for Cisco MDS 9000 Family multilayer switches. Also, this demonstration shows the integration of Cisco MDS and EMC Control Center. See EMC VoyenceControl, a model-based and automated compliance, change, and configuration management solution for networks.
Cisco Unified Fabric Solutions
See how ESX Server works in a unified fabric environment with ESX 3.5 U2, Emulex Converged Network Adaptors, MDS FC switching, and the Cisco Nexus 5020. This demo shows the ability of the Cisco Nexus 5020 switch to use the same physical infrastructure to carry different types of traffic that typically have very different traffic characteristics and handling requirements.
Cisco Unified Computing System
A 3D interactive display of the Unified Computing System (UCS) with relevant product information and messaging.
Data Center Replication Acceleration over the WAN
The setup is part of the Cisco-EMC-VMware reference architecture (VCE) and highlights the WAE 7341 in Replication Accelerator mode. This demonstration shows the Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) solution accelerating data transfer between two data centers.
VMware/Cisco/EMC Virtualized Data Center
Demo Overview/Description: Demonstration of a virtualized data center running mission-critical applications. Technologies will include VDI, virtualized applications (SAP, Oracle, Exchange), VMware, Cisco MDS, Cisco Nexus, and EMC storage (including the new V-Max).
Our theater presentations will feature:
VM-Aware SANs - How a SAN can support mobility, security, and manageability requirement for Virtual Servers
Migrating to 8G FC SANs
SAN Technology Convergence - Impacts & Benefits
Cisco's Unified Computing System
Virtualized Data Center Architecture
Cisco IT Case Study: Implementing Next-Generation Data Center Solutions
