Cisco Refresh - Excess

Cisco Refresh & the Circular Economy
A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life. Cisco recognizes the importance of the circular economy and the opportunity to maximize our scarce resources.

The Cisco Refresh program forms an important approach to addressing our customer’s budgetary requirements - whilst leveraging the value of the circular economy - hence creating that full circle lifecycle for our products. This creates a number of areas that are of utmost importance to Cisco Refresh (i.e., maximizing the initial investment that our customers make in Cisco technology).

Cisco Secondary Market & Why it Exists
Cisco is the worldwide leader in networking and our technology is changing the nature of work and the way we live. We also recognize that because of the superior quality and longevity of our products, there is a healthy secondary market of Cisco products which are resold via nonauthorized secondary market brokers.

Part of our commitment is to not only help protect our customers’ investments, but also to ensure that all products supplied via our Authorized Channel meet the high standards that our customers have come to expect.

The Risks of the Secondary Market (i.e., products not sourced from Cisco)

  • May be non-genuine or counterfeit
  • May be parallel import or even stolen
  • May not have critical engineering change orders carried out

Cisco Excess Used Product Offering
As part of the Circular Economy, we want to ensure that we optimize the value of our entire technology portfolio regardless of where it sits in the product lifecycle. Occasionally, Cisco ends up with excess used product inventory that still has a useful life, but with limited demand from our traditional Authorized Channels. This is why we have created an Excess Used Product offering where we sell used products that are excess to our requirements through a select group of Excess Customers. These organizations are enabled to resell these Excess Used Products within the secondary market.

Key Information about Cisco’s Excess Used Product Offering:

  • All products sourced from Cisco’s Excess Used inventory are designated with a “-WS” at the end of the part number
  • All products are Excess Used inventory that have a valid version of the IOS loaded and relicensed by Cisco
  • All products are fully functional and may include minor cosmetic imperfections
  • All products are eligible for Smart Net Total Care (SNTC) support purchased through a Cisco Authorized Partner (subject to Cisco’s SNTC policies)

Excess Used Products are not to be confused with our Cisco Certified Refresh (-RF) products, which are remanufactured and are only available via our Authorized Channels. Find a Cisco Authorized Partner (for SNTC purchase) in your area:
