Smart Industrialization: An Integrated Approach to Increasing Value of Downstream Oil and Petrochemical Investments
Future Vision: The Next Revolution in Production Operations
Smart Grid Solutions
The Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG) Global Energy Practice helps Fortune 500 companies understand how the network / related technologies can help them transform their organizations, workflows, and business processes, improving innovation and productivity. Our areas of focus are:
Producing and delivering clean, reliable power—which fuels virtually every aspect of modern society—is becoming increasingly challenging as environmental concerns mount and natural resources become more difficult to access. In addition, large numbers of key employees have begun retiring, leaving a gap in expertise among younger workers. Because of this, CEOs of integrated oil companies—along with leaders of national oil, construction and engineering, and oil field services companies—are working to improve collaboration across dispersed regions and develop better models for creating the next generation of industry expertise.
The utilities industry is at a turning point: demand for electricity is rising rapidly in emerging markets such as China and India. Given this, renewable power-generation sources will increase significantly, causing industry CEOs to rethink current business models. This situation illustrates the importance of changing the existing electricity system to a new, efficient, reliable, and clean system of the future. Smart grid is the platform for this new energy system. Cisco created a Smart Grid Solutions business unit to directly support key customer transformation initiatives along the utilities value chain—from power generation, trading, transmission, and distribution to retail.
