Thank you very much for attending our first regional Cisco Connect event in South East Europe in Dubrovnik on May 20-22, 2013. On this website you will find presentations (Agenda tab), photos and general information about the event.

Also, thank you very much for completing the event surveys. The winners of the Data Center posters and T-shirts who did not pick them up during the event will receive them via post. The winner of the iPad Mini after the post-event draw is Mr. Srecko Videcnik from Slovenian Post.

We appreciate your interest and participation and look forward to seeing you in our future events!

Dubrovnik, Croatia, 21.05.2013 – Cisco Connect 2013, the region’s largest networking conference and exhibition opened today in Dubrovnik. Cisco, the worldwide leader in IT and networking, is organizing this event for the first time on a regional scale, gathering 850 IT experts and business leaders from nine countries.

In his opening keynote, Peter Hajdu, general director of Cisco in South East Europe, shared his perspectives on the region’s key economic and business trends. “Several companies are building a regional presence and are emerging as regional players – not only in IT, but also in telecommunications, banking, insurance and manufacturing. Cisco Connect aims at bringing together IT specialists and business leaders from across South East Europe to discuss the most important technology developments of the present and of the future, and their impact on business.” Peter Hajdu said. During his presentation, he also recognized the CCIE (Cisco Certified Internet Expert) community in South East Europe, which today counts more than 160 experts. They hold the highest level and most prestigious networking certification in the IT industry. “The CCIE program is a great example of education and knowledge transfer, to the benefit of the whole region,”- Hajdu added.

The central theme of Cisco Connect 2013 is the Internet of the future. The proliferation of mobile devices, cloud and the virtualization of resources are trends which not only impact IT, but all areas of a company’s operations, including manufacturing, sales, finance, human resources, logistics and others. And this is only the beginning.

Jožek Gruskovnjak from Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group spoke about ten technology trends that are changing the world, including cloud, mobility, big data, new and powerful devices, Bring Your Own Device, as well as the Internet of Everything. Cisco estimates that today, 99 percent of things in the physical world are still not connected. As more and more devices, sensors, things, data, people and processes connect to the Internet, the quantity and value of information from these connections is growing exponentially. New services, applications can be built, new types of decisions can be made based on this information.

This year, Cisco Connect’s Platinum partner is Intel Corporation, the world’s largest semiconductor company. Collaboration between Cisco and Intel was described in Intel’s Mobility and Data center presentation, showing how mobile devices depend on internet infrastructure and on data centers. Intel also outlined how Moore’s law - the fact that the number of transistors that can fit on a given area of silicon doubles every 2 years - drives dramatic change in computer technology and enables new business opportunities and business processes.

During the 2 days of the conference, participants can choose among some 60 presentations in 6 business and technology sections, including data center and virtualization, service provider networks, collaboration, video and core technologies, delivered by Cisco experts and Cisco partner specialists from South East Europe, as well as from across Europe and the globe. In organizing Cisco Connect SEE, Cisco is joined by several of its partnes, including Com.4T, CS Computer Systems, NetApp, Panduit and Verso as Gold Partners of the conference, as well as EMC as Technology Partner.

About Dubrovnik

Welcome to Dubrovnik

Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel

It is a medieval city on the Croatian side of the Adriatic coastline and a treasure - trove of cultural - historical monument that were created throughout its thousand-year existence.

In the past, it was a City-Republic, and alongside Venice one of the most famous cultural-economic centers on the Mediterranean. In more recent times, it has become the center of modern cultural and tourist events: a city of summer festivals - an international parade of top musical and theatrical achievements, a city of museums and galleries.

These values have turned Dubrovnik into a place that offers a rich selection of various experiences and excitement, but also a complete holiday in quiet and calming, mild Mediterranean ambience and wonderful seaside landscapes.

Welcome to Dubrovnik - a city of thousand year old tradition that offers something for everyone. There are many beautiful places in the world; however, the people of Dubrovnik claim their city to be the most beautiful.

The walls of Dubrovnik girdle a perfectly preserved complex of public and private, sacral and secular buildings representing all periods of the City’s history, beginning with its founding in the 7th century. Since 1979 Dubrovnik is in the register of UNESCO as a protected World heritage. Particular mention should be made of the city’s main street in the old historical center - Stradun, Rector’s Palace, St. Blaise’s Church, Cathedral, three large monasteries, Custom’s Office and the City Hall. The Republic of Dubrovnik was the centre of a separate political and territorial entity, and was proud of its culture, its achievements in commerce and especially of its freedom, preserved in the course of the stormy centuries.

Climate

The climate in the Dubrovnik Region is typical Mediterranean. Average daily temperature in May is approx. 20 °C and nightly temperature approx. 12 °C
