Shanghai – 5 July, 2010 – Cisco has launched an initiative to reunite Chinese families virtually with relatives overseas via Cisco TelePresence, in collaboration with Tata Communications. TelePresence is a key piece of Cisco's vision for the Smart+Connected Life, which is the theme of its corporate pavilion at World Expo. Cisco, the only global IT company with its own pavilion, is presenting its vision for life in 2020. This will be enabled by networking technology and the initiative with Tata Communications will help share that message with a wider demographic.

"These family reunions are a powerful expression of Cisco's vision of the Human Network," said Owen Chan, President and CEO of Greater China, Cisco. "We hope that by inviting Chinese families from all walks of life to participate in these reunions, they can experience first-hand the benefits of living a Smart+Connected Life. Cisco can help families reconnect, and this technology can build bridges across all aspects of society, changing the way we work, live, play, and learn."

"Tata Communications is pleased to make TelePresence available to as many users as possible with our global network of public TelePresence rooms and our suite of managed TelePresence networks services. Our TelePresence rooms located in key locations around the world - Los Angeles, Boston, Toronto, London, Singapore and Sydney - will connect with the TelePresence room in Shanghai, allowing families across varying time-zones and distances to interface seamlessly for this, first-of- a-kind, family day," said David Wirt, Global Head of Managed Services, Tata Communications.

"This is a good platform for us to demonstrate the capability of our public rooms and their accessibility to the general public, going beyond our traditional proposition of serving enterprises" concludes Wirt. The Cisco Pavilion in Shanghai will open its doors two Sundays each month to welcome the winning families to the TelePresence rooms for their reunion, connecting them via Tata Communications' global public rooms. The program will run through October 31, when the Expo closes.

Starting today, Cisco and Tata Communications invite Chinese families to submit entries. Applications will be evaluated on how compelling their stories are. Winners will be chosen on the basis of which families Cisco and Tata Communications believe would benefit most from this opportunity to experience a Smart+Connected Life.
