Nesrene O'Connell

Nesrene O'Connell

Nesrene O'Connell is the Senior Manager, Event Marketing for Cisco in Australia and New Zealand and is the overall Program Manager for Cisco Live 2014, Melbourne, Australia. Cisco Live Melbourne 2014 will be her 10th global Cisco Live / Cisco Networkers Conference. Nesrene previously managed the Cisco Networkers European event before moving to Australia five years ago.

Previously to Cisco, Nesrene worked at an agency and has a wealth of experience delivering large scale events for Oracle, Siebel, PeopleSoft, Novell and Motorola.

At Cisco, her main responsibilities include managing the overall vision, strategy and program management for Cisco Australia and New Zealand's event portfolio (proprietary events, industry sponsorships, partner sponsorships and internal events). She manages a team of highly creative and innovative event managers. She enjoys focusing on the delegate experience and journey.

Interesting Fact: Nesrene's career in events started when she was recruited to manage the Australian and British Ambassadors events in Damascus, Syria when she was on a posting with her husband in 1998.

Events of this size are only possible with the collaboration and efforts of PEOPLE, the most important asset. Below is an introduction to the people in the Cisco Live core team.

Jessica O'Brien

Jessica O'Brien

Jessica O'Brien is an Event Marketing Manager for Cisco in Australia and New Zealand and is responsible for a variety of programs and projects that fall under the Cisco Live Melbourne 2014 event banner. Jessica also works on industry and partner events that Cisco sponsor throughout the year and works closely with the architecture and public sector marketing and sales teams.

Previously to working for Cisco, Jessica has worked on events for the national e-health project. Other experience in the health industry includes working at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for many years primarily running videoconferencing events for trainees across Australia and New Zealand.

Jessica's studies at the International College of Management Sydney and her events experience at the Hilton Sydney, lead her into the events industry at an early age and she has never looked back at her career choice and is very passionate about all events she is involved in.

Freya Lundgren

Freya Lundgren

Freya is an Event Marketing Coordinator at Cisco in Australia and New Zealand. Her responsibilities including Partner and Industry sponsorships. Cisco Live Melbourne 2014 will be her first Cisco Live Conference where she will be Event Managing a number of components of the program.

Prior to Cisco Freya worked for a destination marketing organisation running and promoting travel industry events of varying size globally, and has also previously worked on financial education events. She brings a wealth of project management and marketing experience to her role at Cisco.

Raymond Janse van Rensburg

Raymond Janse van Rensburg

Raymond Janse van Rensburg serves as the overall content lead for Cisco Live Melbourne and is the Director, Systems Engineering for Cisco in Australia & New Zealand.

Raymond joined Cisco as a Systems Engineer in the South African team in 1998. In 2001, he moved into Cisco's Middle East and Africa organisation as a Consulting Systems Engineer focusing on Unified Communications in the Enterprise segment. In 2005, he took over the leadership for all technical resources for the Cisco operation in South Africa.

Raymond fulfilled several roles at Networkers and Cisco Live events since the late 90's. He was a speaker for Unified Communications (Europe and South Africa), demo owner (South Africa) and content lead (Australia and South Africa).

Prior to Cisco, he was working as a Technology Specialist at IBM South Africa and SASOL Ltd. Raymond holds a B.PL (Hons) degree from the University of the Free State (South Africa), lectured Data Communications at the University of Johannesburg (Formerly TWR) and achieved his Routing & Switching CCIE in 1999.

Michael Christie

Michael Christie

With Simon King, Michael is responsible for the Technical Education Program at Cisco Live. He has been involved with the event for several years, having previously been responsible for Networkers, the Service Provider Program and the World of Solutions.

Michael is a Systems Engineering Manager with Cisco in Sydney, Australia. His team has responsibility for driving the sales of Cisco's broad portfolio of technologies by managing customer relationships, providing trusted advice, proposals and demonstrations in the Service Provider and Small-to-Medium Business markets.

Qualified with a BSc, Michael has spent more than 25 years in the IT and Telecommunications industries in the UK and Australia. He has had a variety of roles including product engineering, customer support engineering and service management, Network Operations Centre management and project/program management.

Simon King

Simon King

Together with Michael Christie, Simon serves as the content lead for the Technical Education Program at Cisco Live. He also manages the team of Systems Engineers in the Enterprise (Mid) market at Cisco Australia.

Simon joined Cisco as a Systems Engineer in 2005 and has worked across a number of industry verticals in that capacity. With a background in Routing and Switching technologies he has also fulfilled responsibilities in the ANZ Route & Switch specialists groups over this time.

Simon has enjoyed several roles at Networkers and Cisco Live events. He has been a regular speaker in the Route/ Switch and Video tracks over the years, co-lead content for the inaugural IT Executive Summit and organised the Walk-In Self-Paced Labs for the first time most recently.

Holding a B.Sc from Sydney Uni, Simon worked in Network Engineering and Architecture roles for a decade prior to joining Cisco.

Robert De Nicolo

Robert De Nicolo

Robert De Nicolo is the content lead for the Executive Symposium event of Cisco Live Melbourne 2014. Robert is passionate about Cisco Live, having been actively involved in Cisco Live and Networkers for over a decade, as both a presenter and content lead.

Robert has been with Cisco for almost 14 years, during which he has worked in several pre-sales technical roles with particular focus on architecture and design. His current role as a Customer Solutions Architect in the Cisco ANZ Health Practice, sees him working with Healthcare customers to assist them in understanding how technology can be leveraged to deliver improved healthcare outcomes. Robert has been in the IT industry for more than 20 years and has worked for a number of Cisco's large Enterprise customers in various technical roles, including network design and systems integration. Robert holds a BSc-Genetics, as well as post graduate qualifications in both Computer Science and Digital Communications.

Julie Canepa

Julie Canepa

Julie is the Chief-of-Staff/Operations Lead for Cisco IT supporting Asia Pacific, Greater China & Japan. She works with IT teams to drive operational efficiency including how Cisco uses its own technologies. Julie has been at Cisco 16 years developing real world IT experience working in a variety of capacities around the globe. She has an application development background and has held several IT leadership positions specialising in sales, commerce and supply chain systems. Key initiatives include Cisco's global ERP implementation, the development of Cisco's Commerce solutions, and delivering CRM capabilities to Cisco's Sales teams.

Tony Hall

Tony Hall

Tony has worked for Cisco for the past 7 years. His current role is as Systems Engineering Manager for the Public Sector Go-To-Market. Tony's role at Cisco Live is the World Of Solutions Demonstration Manager. He has been involved with Cisco Live for the past 4 years. Tony is looking forward to bringing a new look and feel to the Cisco demonstrations showing the latest Cisco technologies at the 2014 Cisco Live event.

Karen Lowery

Karen Lowery

Karen is an IT Project Manager who works for the APAC Project IT team, IBM. She began in this role in 2006 and delivers internal Cisco IT projects in a global managed service environment. Karen is the Asia Pacific Project Lead for the Cisco Fleet, Data Centre Fleet and Extranet Fleet Programs. As well as this she has also managed the setup of the IT infrastructure in a number of new Cisco offices, Cisco Partner Offices and of course at two Cisco Events! Karen has worked on Cisco Networkers 2009 in Brisbane and Cisco Live! 2011, 2012 and 2013 in Melbourne and is very much looking forward to working with the team on the Cisco Live 2014 event.

Vanessa Taylor

Vanessa Taylor

Vanessa has been the Cisco Live Australia (and previously Cisco Networkers) Sponsorship and Exhibition Manager since 2005 and her and her team at PDK Corporate Events are also responsible for event creative elements and communications. In her sponsorship sales capacity Vanessa has seen a dramatic increase in the World of Solutions showcase over the last 9 years, in both sponsor participation and the breadth of involved partners and their best-of-breed technology demonstration capabilities. Of her involvement at Cisco Live, Vanessa says "Every year new partner dynamics are introduced, bearing witness to the historic evolution of technology's role in the world we live in. ''It's a wonderfully fast-paced, and exciting event to work on." Prior to her event management role for Cisco Live, Vanessa was the event manager at the heritage-listed ArtHouse Hotel and before that managed IT Procurement for Cisco Asia Pacific giving her extensive exposure to technology-led IT organisations and individuals throughout the region.
