Dynamic Consolidated Views of Your SNA and TCP/IP Resources

Increasingly, SNA networks are being merged at the physical and logical layers with multiprotocol networks based on TCP/IP. Through the use of Data-Link Switching (DLSw), Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN) over IP, and remote source-route bridging (RSRB) technologies, your SNA sessions are being transported over an IP network. Therefore, the operation of the DLSw, APPN, and RSRB protocols in your routers and the state of their connections are essential to your user's access to SNA applications.

CiscoWorks Blue Maps provides dynamic views showing the state of the SNA protocols as they relate to your routed network. It alerts you when there is a problem that affects the transport of your SNA sessions and helps you quickly obtain information from the routers, so that you can begin problem resolution before your end users call and can fix the problem faster.

Maps monitors the status of the routers and their interconnections through the use of extensive Management Information Base (MIB) instrumentation in Cisco routers. SNA resource information is gathered from the mainframe and correlated with the Media Access Control (MAC) address information from the routers. Because Maps correlates SNA resource names with the associated routers, you can more easily identify and solve problems in the IP network or in the SNA environment. This correlation also lets you display a dependency view that depicts end-to-end connectivity from the physical unit (PU) to the mainframe for SNA sessions that are transported over TCP/IP.

By combining relevant TCP/IP and SNA data, Maps makes it easier than ever before to confidently manage the growing multiprotocol network while delivering service levels that SNA users demand.
