Cisco 7200 Series
Rack Mount OptionsThe Cisco 7200 Series Router has evolved into a premier platform for enterprise and service provider environments. Today, you are just as likely to see a Cisco 7200 router installed in a large data center as in a corporate office, and because of the wide array of applications for the Cisco 7200 Series, a variety of physical installation options must also be available.
The Cisco 7200 Series by itself fits snugly into a standard 19-inch-wide rack, which is the standard rack size used in most enterprise and service provider environments today. However, there is also a growing need be able to securely install a Cisco 7200 Series Router into the standard 23-inch racks that are typically found in telco and service provider environments.
19-Inch Installation Options
The rack mount kit shipped with all Cisco 7200 Series routers is designed to fit into a standard 19-inch rack. This kit can be used to install a Cisco 7200 Series Router with either the port adapter side or the power supply side facing forward. It can also be used to install a Cisco 7200 Series Router into a center mount 19-inch rack.
23-Inch Installation Options
To modify a Cisco 7200 Series Router to fit into the larger rack size, a special adapter is required. Cisco has partnered with a third-party supplier to manufacture this adapter. Customers can order this kit directly from the manufacturer, Newton Instrument Company (http://www.newtoninst.com 919-575-6426). The part number for the 19-to-23-inch adapter is 2079590331.
The kit from Newton Instrument Company allows the Cisco 7200 Series Router to be mounted with either end facing forward or in a center mount configuration. Therefore, the Cisco 7200 Series Router can be mounted with either the port adapter side or the power supply side facing forward or from a center mount type of rack.
Rack Density System Installation Options
Cisco Systems provides a unique solution for customers who want to get the most out of their valuable data center space. The Rack Density System (RDS) is a special rack mount kit designed to hold up to three Cisco 7200 Series routers with modified front-to-back airflow. Front-to-back airflow patterns obviate the need for open air space next to each Cisco 7200 Series Router that normally flows air from side to side.
In addition to airflow benefits, the RDS provides options for front, back, or center mounting in 19-, 21-, or 23-inch standard racks as well as an integrated cable management system for managing the complex of cables entering the Cisco 7200 Series chassis.
