The Cisco 10000 Series Internet Router is the industry's premier edge aggregation IP router developed to lower the overall complexity and cost of network operations at the edge while enabling the delivery of high-performance IP services at edge of the service provider network. Revenue generating IP services can easily be delivered using the unmatched value and investment protection of the Cisco 10000 with its Parallel eXpress Forwarding (PXF) engine, a broad range of transport interface choices, and service modules. The Cisco 10000 Series products are architected to meet the service, performance, scale, and carrier-class reliability requirements of today's edge networks. The Cisco 10000 Series includes two models: the Cisco 10008 and the Cisco 10005.

The Cisco 10000 series is uniquely designed to aggregate these edge services with industry leading capabilities such as:

  • High Availability The Cisco 10000 series is the industry’s first IP router designed for 99.999% of carrier-class reliability. With both hardware and software designed for total redundancy, automatic route processor failover and a foundation for capabilities such as non-stop forwarding and hitless software upgrades. These high availability features reduce the cost and simplify the process of network upgrades, enhance provider ability to meet or exceed customer SLAs and decrease the need for unscheduled or emergency maintenance.
  • Lower Operational Costs Delivering lower operational costs, the Cisco 10000 series enables savings by up to a factor of 10x in CO rack space, power consumption and network complexity when compared to traditional IP edge routers. This savings provides for the industry’s best ROI for low speed (DS1) leased line aggregation.
  • Adaptive Network Processing for IP Edge Services The Cisco 10000 series with its PXF-accelerated performance routing engine enables software upgradeable IP services while delivering line-rate performance over thousands of leased line connections. Unlike other vendor edge solutions, only Cisco can deliver the performance of hardware ASICs, with the flexibility to enable new IP services with a standard Cisco IOS software upgrade. The Cisco 10000 series delivers the industry most comprehensive set of IP features at the provider edge.
  • Comprehensive MPLS VPNs The Cisco 10000 Series Internet Router supports critical MPLS and MPLS VPN features, making it the ideal platform at the network edge for service providers building MPLS VPNs. MPLS-based IP VPNs provide privacy and security by constraining the distribution of VPN routes to only those routers belonging to the same VPN, while MPLS traffic engineering ensures optimal traffic patterns and load balancing across the MPLS network. With MPLS VPN support on the Cisco 10000 Series Internet Router, service providers can provide scalable any-to-any connectivity for extended intranets and extranets that encompass multiple businesses and users.
