Ethernet Configuration : Ethernet Identification

The Identification page contains the basic locating and identity information for the Ethernet port. The Ethernet Identification page differs slightly from other ports in that it documents the main connection with the wired network.

Settings

Primary Port ?

The primary port determines the MAC and IP addresses. Ordinarily, the primary port is the Ethernet port, so this setting is usually set to yes. Select yes to set the Ethernet port as the primary port. Select no to set the radio port as the primary port.

Adopt Primary Port Identity?

Select yes to adopt the primary port settings (MAC and IP addresses) for the Ethernet port. Select no to use different MAC and IP addresses for the Ethernet port.

Note Some advanced bridge configurations require different settings for the Ethernet and radio ports.

Port Identification

This section is common to all Identification pages before the 12.00 release. It displays both default and current identification for MAC Address, IP Address, and IP Subnet Mask. Changing a default address on this device can have serious consequences including the chance of losing network connectivity or forcing a reboot of the system. See the Express Setup Page for an alternate place to modify station identification (Summary Status > Setup > Express Setup).

MAC Address

This field displays the MAC address assigned by the manufacturer.

Default IP Address

Use this setting to assign or change the IP address. The significance of such a change depends on whether or not DHCP/BOOTP is enabled for the network. If DHCP/BOOTP is not enabled for your network, the IP address you enter in this field is the device's IP address. If DHCP/BOOTP is enabled, this field provides the IP address only if no server responds with an IP address for the device.

Default IP Subnet Mask

Enter an IP subnet mask to identify the subnetwork so the IP address can be recognized on the LAN. The significance of such a change depends on whether or not DHCP/BOOTP is enabled for the network. If DHCP/BOOTP is not enabled, this field is the subnet mask. If DHCP/BOOTP is enabled, this field provides the subnet mask only if no server responds to the request.

Current IP Address

This field shows the IP address currently assigned to the device. This is the same address as the default IP address unless DHCP/BOOTP is enabled. If DHCP/BOOTP is enabled, this field displays the IP address that is dynamically assigned to the device for the duration of its session on the network. It might not match the default IP address.

Current IP Subnet Mask

This field shows the IP subnet mask currently assigned to the device. This is the same subnet mask as the default subnet mask unless DHCP or BOOTP is enabled. If DHCP or BOOTP is enabled, this is the subnet mask used by the server.

Maximum Packet Data Length

Enter the maximum length allowed for a data packet.

Apply

After entering new settings, click Apply to activate the new entries. The browser remains on this page.

OK

This button both applies the new settings and moves the browser back to the Setup page.

Cancel

Cancels entries, returns the settings to the previous stored entries, and redirects the user back the Setup page.

Restore Defaults

Click to change all settings on this page back to the factory default settings.
