Problem Description

The symptom affects dual RSP systems utilizing the HSA feature.

When using the maintenance releases in Table 2 and feature sets with dual RSPs (HSA feature) the system will reload and issue a bus error exception. The affected images are being deferred.

Problem Symptoms

Below is the output of a Cisco 7500 with HSA configured running rsp-dsv-mz.112-13.4P. The system will boot up and report the following error message:

Workaround

There are no workarounds available.

Solution

To eliminate the problems mentioned in the preceding sections, Cisco strongly recommends that you download and install one of the Cisco IOS software release updates listed in Table 3 below, or downgrade to a previous release referencing the affected releases in Table 2 above. .

Cisco IOS Versions Affected

Systems configured with dual RSPs (HSA feature) are affected by CSCdk01707. The high system availability (HSA) feature is supported in all RSP images with a "v" listed in the feature set. Only the "v" images are deferred 1 and the remaining images without the "v" will be made available following the standard release process.

Because of the feature affected, the Cisco IOS software images listed in Table 2 are deferred (meaning, not posted on CCO or available through a new order) as of May 29, 1998. Existing orders will be issued with the fix for each Major Release3 stated in Table 3.

Notes:

¹ - CAT5K RSM "v" images are not deferred because of the RSM not supporting dual processors.

² - Cisco IOS rsp-p-mz images are not orderable. These images are available only through CCO online.

³ - 11.2P orders will be issues 11.2(12a)P images until 11.2(14)P is available.

⁴ - 11.1CT "v" images are not deferred due to 11.1CT's limited customer production use at this time.

Bug Details

CSCdk08772 has been opened for the symptom stated above and has been marked a duplicate of CSCdk01707. The actual software defect was introduced in CSCdj36366.

• CSCdk08772 (registered customers only) -r4k_writebus_dummy gives incorrect address.

• CSCdk01707 (registered customers only) -HSA cycle crashes with the DSV image.

• CSCdj36366 (registered customers only) -Fix to CSCdj36366 is incorrect.
